Advantages: leaves skin soft and bright looking
Disadvantages: a little expensive
I actually bought this product after reading a review of it on Dooyoo. Only thing was, I got home and realised the product I had read the review on was 'Olay Regenerist Thermal Skin Polisher' and what I'd actually bought was 'Olay Total Effects Self-Heating Skin Exfoliator.' Oops. Well, never mind, they were from the same brand and sounded like they did the same thing, so I just kept my fingers crossed that this one would be as good as the other one sounded!
The scrub comes in a black tube which has a metallic pink and gold bit at the bottom, and a big number seven on the front as apparently this stuff will fight the seven signs of ageing.
Olay is not a brand I would normally purchase, as to be honest it's a brand I associate with my Grandma - sorry Olay fans! But as I'd read the recommendation (OK, fair enough it was a recommendation of another product!) and I had a £5 off voucher at the time, I decided it was worth a try.
The scrub contains 'mild micro crystals' whatever they may be, and the product warms up when it comes into contact with water, which they say will give you a 'mini dermabrasion'.
It says on the tube that this should be used daily, and it doesn't matter if you use it in the morning or at night. I was quite surprised to read that this was a daily product to be honest, because normally I would only use a face scrub once or twice a week. I must admit, although I have owned this product for around five or six weeks, I would say I've only been using it about four times a week, rather than every day, mainly because I just don't remember. Even so, I seem to get good results, and I think this is often enough to still have a good impact.
To use the scrub you have to wet your face, as obviously this product is activated by the water. It says to apply a 'pearl sized amount' but I normally need to use about double this, to cover my whole face. The scrub itself is a lilac-purple sort of colour and has a gentle yet unusual smell - it's quite fruity but also smells very creamy.
As the scrub touches the skin you can feel it begin to heat up. This sensation only really lasts around 10 seconds max (and even then I might be being generous), and although it feels hot, it's not uncomfortable or itchy. You need to massage into the skin so that the 'micro crystals' have a change to slough away any dead, dry skin. Because the mask heats up, this means it opens the pores, to give your skin a deeper clean.
After rinsing this off, I find that my skin feels beautifully soft. It exfoliates really well and gets rid of any dry bits I have, and leaves my skin looking fresher and brighter. Using this is like a real pick-me-up for the skin, and I've been incredibly impressed with the results.
As for preventing signs of ageing, it's difficult to tell really, but I suppose it does give my skin a glow, which may make it appear more youthful.
A 125ml tube costs £6.84 from Boots.
Overall, I have been very impressed with this. As I said, I wasn't particularly a fan of Olay, but now I'm looking forward to trying some more products from the range.
Summary: A fantastic little scrubber!
