Advantages: lovely peppermint aroma, cools you down when you're hot, keeps legs smooth and is ideal for sensitive skin
Disadvantages: too cold to use in winter
For those of you that have read my other Original Mint Source opinion, you will have perhaps worked out that I have become addicted to them, so I am always on the look out for new Original Source Mint products. I came across Original Mint Source Tea Tree & Mint Shave Gel. I had been on the lookout for a good shaving foam for a while now and decided to have a quick peek on the Original Source website to see if there was such a thing as a shaving foam. I was so happy when I spotted quite a few, but the Mint one sounded more tempting, due to the experiences of the roll on and the shampoo in the same flavour. On my next visit to Savers, I decided to keep an eye out for it. Unfortunately they didn’t sell it, as most cheap shops don’t stock it, but you can buy it from big supermarkets such as Tesco, Waitrose, Boots, Superdrug, Asda, Somerfield and Sainsbury to name a few. I spotted it on the shelf in Tesco. It’s not hard to miss. The packaging is green with the words ‘Original Mint Source Shave Gel’ in huge black letters on the front. There is also a red box with the words ‘Tea Tree & Mint’ in. It is quite a big can and has a clear top. It also says ‘It’s the essential oils that make the difference’. This shaving foam stays true to its word, as do the other Original Source products. Your experience with this shaving foam can only be described as ‘A zingy never felt before experience for the most refreshing and stimulating shave you have ever had’ The one I brought came in a 200ml can for £2.99 but you can also buy a 100ml can for £1.49 from Tesco, Boots, Superdrug or Morrisons. As you can see you are much more likely to find a 200ml can than a 100ml can. The 100ml can is travel sized and is great for weekends away or overnight stays. The prices are fantastic seeing that they can last for months and months. This Shaving Foam contains the essential oils -
Tea Tree Oil, which is a natural antiseptic, and Peppermint Oil, which is stimulating, cooling and reviving. This product uses natural oils not synthetic fragrances. It is also not tested on animals. The zingy smell of mint together with the calming benefits of tea tree gives this shave gel the combination that mint source fans have come to love. The oils provide a stimulating shave experience that will wake up even the sleepiest individual and cure a hangover. Now I don’t know about curing a hangover but it most certainly will wake up the sleepiest person, as you will see below. When using this product, only squirt out a tiny droplet of gel into your hands as a little can go a long long way. Oh yes!!! It comes out the can in a gel format and you massage it into your hands and you’re left with masses of peppermint smelling foam. One 2p size of gel can last for 2 legs. That’s how powerful this stuff is. As you can see that the can is 200ml, you’re right in thinking it will last a very long time. I have been using it for about 3 months now and it still feels very full. Of course on the first time of using this, (being the Original Source fan that I am), I decided to use a lot of gel and the aroma of peppermint could be smelt downstairs, perhaps even down the other end of the street hehe. Once massaged all over my legs, I started to feel a refreshing and tingly sensation. I shaved it all off and I felt as if my legs were in a freezer. Not the same kind of freezer when I used the shampoo but this felt colder. I walked out the bathroom and for the next half an hour (No I’m not kidding) my legs were tingling, refreshing, zingy, and freezing with a strong aroma of peppermint. Everywhere I went I left a trail of peppermint smell. Who needs an air freshener when you’ve got this???? I had to wrap my legs up in a towel for half an hour to keep them warm. The coldness is definite
ly enough to wake up a very exhausted person. So use this in the morning before you start your day and you will be more awake and alert than anybody else. Now I’ve learnt my lesson, I only ever use a small amount of gel. I still get a cold, tingly, refreshing sensation as I did the first time I used it, except the coldness isn’t as extreme. I suppose the best time to use this is in summer in a hot country, or even a volcano hehe, then you can use as much gel, as you like, knowing that you will be cooled down. OOOOOH, I’m getting the shivers just thinking of it!!!!!! The only disadvantages about this product (yes I’ve found some) are: the can tends to get rusty around the bottom after a while and when I put the lid on, it tends to leak out the nuzzle. I don’t know why this is as I clean the top before I put the lid on. Legs can get too cold if you use too much. The advantages are: Only 1 droplet of gel is needed at any one time as it goes a long way, a lovely strong peppermint aroma, cheap as it lasts a long time, cools legs after a shave, tingly, refreshing sensation. Can be used on sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and most shaving foams / gels tend to irritate my skin, but I have had no problems with this shave gel. I can also use it under my arms and on my bikini line with no irritations. Overall this is the best shaving gel I have ever tried and I might consider trying the other flavours in the Original Source range when this has ran out.
