Being a bloke is magic. Well, it is most of the time! Good things about being a bloke: Being able to ignore instruction manuals. Instinctive navigation without the use of signposts or maps. Being able to buy stuff cheaply. Understanding the offside rule in football. Being able to watch football without referring to hair or legs. Bad things about being a bloke: Shaving. All in all, I think us blokes have it made! As I say, I hate shaving. This is not only because I have sensitive skin, but also because the easiest way for me to shave until now has been wet shaving. Ever since I've been shaving ... Read the complete review

Time is the commuters worst enemy. Every second is precious. From the second the alarm clock goes off to the second you take your seat on the train, everything is precisely timed. In my quest for ever greater efficiency in the mornings (in order to extend my precious sleep-time) I looked at where the time went. I won't go into it in detail but it became clear that I spent the most time in the bathroom. What with morning ablution, shaving and the call of nature I spent nearly 20 of my 30 minutes in the bathroom!!! Something had to be done. The obvious choice was to ditch shaving. This I tried. Growing a beard took 6 weeks, after which people asked ... Read the complete review

Phillishave – The best a man can get? Well, if mine is anything to go by – then the answer has to be yes! I have had my “Cool Skin” for about 12 months now, and it is indeed a fine performer. My brother also has one (coincidence) and speaks just as highly of his. We have both had problems with shave burn. (Ouch!) So much so, that neither of us shaved everyday, it was just too painful. If I had a business meeting on a non-shaving day then of course I had to shave, but it takes half an hour for the blood and swelling to die down long enough for me to put a collared shirt on - and then it would itch all day long. I ... Read the complete review

Who wants to use one of those wet razors if it means that a fighter jet will fly through your window? After all, that?s what happens in the adverts, and they are always true to life. Anyway, I suppose I should start by explaining why I now prefer the Philishave which I got rather than those bloodthirsty manual devices. I have always had quite sensitive skin, particularly in the facial area. Like quite a few men, I found wet shaving with a manual razor an experience which felt (and, horribly, sometimes looked) like I had taken sandpaper to my face in some masochistic fit of rage. My skin felt tight, hot and raw, and it was noticeable on my face, being worse ... Read the complete review

Reviews of shavers are often misleading. They key to a good review of any electric shaver is to set the context of the reviewer. Its not good enough to describe the shaver, one must define the personal situation that determines whether the shaver was deemed useful or not by the person reviewing it. So here's my take on the Philishave Coolskin. I have what I dearly call 'A Beard of Steel' - an indication that I have extreme trouble getting what most men would easily attain - a smooth clean shave. Many a morning I've sat on the train and noticed the smooth, bump free, stubble free shaves on smartly suited englishmen. In return I either sported ... Read the complete review
