Are you at war with your skin? Well, be prepared to declare a ceasefire (and not the usual type found in world politics these days) because Ponds Cold Cream is like the United Nations of skin cleansers. It lollops into your skin and says ‘You spent how much on that last face wash?’ and does its thing leaving you with skin as soft as a baby’s butt. Really, I take this sort of thing seriously I would never lie about something that actually did what it says on the tin.

Now, you may actually have seen Cold Cream before, usually in old films where actresses ran around with great globs of it on to take off their makeup. It does do a brilliant job of removing makeup and will quickly remove any trace of the strongest waterproof mascara before you can complete a small dance of joy. Cold Cream is essentially a cream, like a moisturizer, which you slather all over your face, leave on for about a minute, and then remove. You can either use a warm face cloth (or for really really excellent results one of those Eve Lom muslin cloths… though come to think of it, a square of muslin purchased from Mothercare, which sells metres of the stuff would probably work just as well for a fraction of the price) or cotton wool to remove it. Then head on your way. I found that after a couple of days my skin was much softer, and within a week it was on its way to clearing. Finally, after over a month (which is a true test of skin treatments as that is your skin’s typical renewal period) my face was clean, clear and completely under control. The oiliness was down, the spots had receded into the land of far away and even blackheads were only to be seen in the most protected of places. Pond’s Cold Cream had slain them all in one fell swoop (repeated once in the morning and once in the evening). I have to say that I’ve had far better results with Cold Cream then I had with Eve Lom which I paid 40£ for and which promised to cure my skin trouble for e
ver (it didn’t). I won’t even get into the amounts I’ve paid over the years on skin treatments or face washes that promised to regulate my skin or the brands that I’ve thought would be the final cure all.

Cold Cream is cheap (just over 3£), it can be found in nearly every branch of Boots and you can even buy it with your Boots points. To be honest I never thought it would sort out my troubled skin, after all what’s the point of putting cream on already oily skin? But apparently this is often the best cure. Skin may actually become oily because we’re constantly stripping away its natural moisture through toners or mattifiers or the like. Cold Cream doesn’t do that, and left me feeling perfectly balanced in terms of skin for the first time since I turned 13. After the excellent results I’ve had with Ponds cold cream I’m even eyeing up the other products in the range, and for once treating myself won’t be breaking the bank or filling me with guilt.
