Advantages: very moisturising, cheap, large jar

Disadvantages: no SPF or Retinol A if you're after those

When I think of Pond's products I think of the 70s, most women at the time had some beauty product made by Pond's and my Mum was no excepton. In those days it was mostly the cold cream they used to remove their make up and moisturise the skin but nowadays there's a host of Pond's products to be had.

On a recent perusal around Boyes I was looking for a night cream. I use sun block in the daytime during the sunny months so I don't use normal moisturiser except for at night so when I came upon a section of Pond's creams I wondered what they were like.

I chose the Hydro-Nourishing Cream which claims to be fine as a day or night cream and very moisturising. I have dry skin so moisturisers that claim to be intensely moisturising have their work cut out with me! The 75ml jar was selling for a tiny £2.99 so I thought why not?

The box to this cream looks like the picture above with a purple section and information in silver writing. Inside the jar is made of glass with a white plastic lid that screws off. Pond's claim to "create skin care and cleansing treatments using the latest developments" and they "help women to have more beautiful skin".

As the jar is 75ml and not the usual 50ml of other brands it is oval in shape and looks very plentiful. It must be said it doesn't contain any sun protection though or any anti-aging ingredients such as Retinol A. This is a basic moisturiser that is designed to just moisturise the skin.

This wasn't a problem for me as I wanted something that would keep my dry skin nice and soft and free from flaky bits which many of the creams that do contain anti-aging ingredients don't seem capable of doing.

The cream is quite thick and has a lovely fresh, clean scent. It goes on easily and absorbs brilliantly. I apply it before I go to bed and it sinks into my skin leaving it feeling very soft and supple with no hint of dryness. In the morning it is still soft and comfortable with no signs of oiliness or blocked pores from the cream itself.

I've been using this for 2 weeks and still have more than half the jar left even though I use it on my face and neck nightly. My skin looks healthy and dare I say it, moisturised.

I've tried a variety of creams that are all-singing and all-dancing anti- this that or the other and I find that the majority tend to neglect the basic reason for moisturiser and don't actually moisturise my dry skin very well but this very simple cream from Pond's does a really excellent job.

I will definitely be buying more of this to use through the summer as a night cream, at £2.99 it's an absolute bargain. Very effective and a good size jar for a very low price. As a night cream there's not much more I could ask for.

Summary: Highly recommended as a night cream for dry skin
