Advantages: Do their job

Disadvantages: Not good for children's pictures!

I know you've all been waiting with bated breath for the follow up review to my Asda cotton wool pads article. I promised you an equally thrilling look at the Sainsbury's version, and here it is!

Sainsbury's Basics Cotton Wool Pads are available from Sainsbury's and cost 54 pence. This is the same price as the Asda version. For your money you get approximately 100 cotton wool circles which can be used for any purpose, including removing make-up, applying face cream, or even cleaning spectacles!

The pads come in a clear plastic bag with a drawstring at the top. The bag has the familiar 'Basics' colours of white and orange on it, but it doesn't look too cheap or tacky.

The pads themselves are white and do not have a pattern on. They are totally flat without any embossed flowers etc that you tend to get with pricier brands, but I am personally not too bothered about the appearance of cotton wool pads!

The pads are quite soft and I have never had a problem with them irritating me. They work fine for all purposes and are pretty similar to the Asda pads, so much so that I would have trouble telling the difference. Like the Asda pads, they are also not great at remaining moist for long periods of time and tend to go dry after a while. This will only be a problem for you if you use them to store sore eye relievers like Optrex for hours like I do.

To conclude, these pads are fit for their intended purpose and there is nothing to complain about. Packaging is simple but functional and the contents are soft, simple to use and do their job.

On last thing: I got a comment on my last cotton wool pad review asking if they were any good for making children's pictures with! I would say no, you would be better off with cotton wool balls, as those are much easier to break apart or mould into shapes!

Summary: Functional but not exciting
