The 'Simple' Company
Simple has been around now for almost fifty years and has the proud claim that they produced the first perfume and colour free soap to be recommended by doctors for people with sensitive skin. Their tag line "We believe in goodness" runs true through all their products which are free from harsh chemicals and added colours and perfumes.
Why Exfoliate
Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells on the skin's outermost surface, and has been used for many years to help maintain the skin. Regular exfoliation prevents the build up of the dead skin cells which can result in the skin looking dull and lifeless and breakouts of spots.
The Science Bit
Of the ingredients listed below the really important ones are Witch Hazel (a natural anti-bacterial and good for reducing blemishes), Natural Zinc PCA (Absorbs excess oil), Rice powder (to exfoliate and smooth the skin), Vitamin E (a moisturiser) and Pro-Vitamin B5 (restores, softens and smoothes the skin). As with all their products there are no added colours or perfumes so if you have sensitive skin like mine this product is perfect.
Ingredients
Aqua, Propylene Glycol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Oryza Sativa Germ Powder, Polyethylene, Dimethicone, Panthenol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Zinc PCA, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Methylparaben, Benzophenone-4, Camellia Sinensis Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana Distillate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dipropylene Glycol, Phytosphingosine, Sodium Benzoate, Anthemis Nobilis Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Sorbic Acid
The Look
This white silky cream comes in a pale blue 75ml tube that stands on it end so you can squeeze out every last drop. The pale blue colour with simple wispy lines along the front conveys images of purity and cleansing that are very eye-catching when on the shelf.
Does it work?
A statement on the tube claims "64% less blackheads in 7 days". I guess that is a little hard to test, but after 2 weeks of using the cream I was pleasantly surprised to find the results were noticeable. I have always been quite lucky in that I don't really suffer from spots, but I do have blackheads across my nose that have significantly cleared up (though not altogether gone) and my skin feels soft and looks healthy. To use the cream a small blob is applied and massaged into the skin for around one minute. Almost immediately your skin feels cooler and calmed and the exfoliating effect of the rice powder makes your skin tingle. I've also found that it's great for removing make-up after a night out, leaving your skin feeling refreshed in the morning even if your body doesn't.
Summary: At £3 .75 at great bargain for great skin
