Advantages: Not drying, smoother then other wipes and no overpowering scent
Disadvantages: A small amount of scent would have been nice and these wipes still need to be more moist
I recently bought these for a combined price of £4 for two Simple products, but normally they cost around £3.50 to £3.99 in any of the major health and beauty retailers e.g. Boots, Superdrug, Tesco, Sainsbury..etc
My main reason for using these was to use after I have washed my face with a cleanser but before moisturising- so for toning. I had used the Clinique 3 step system and realised just how much dirt cleansers don't get off and decided that I was now going to tone every evening! I couldn't afford the Clique product again- which nears £20 so worked out these wipes would be a great second best if they worked.
I will be comparing these wipes to the wipes I have used in the past: L'Oreal derma expertise, Simple Cleansing wipes, Simple daily radiance cleansing wipes and Johnsons Cleansing wipes.
Well as prices go, these are a bargain if you can still get them on the offer- you get 25 wipes in a pack and costing £2 a packet (on offer) its less then 10p (its 8p) a wipe which as wipes go is quite cheap. And far cheaper then the Clinque toner which works out around 80p a use!
The wipes themselves are non scented, as all Simple's products are meant to be. The wipes are around face size- in that you can take one out the packet, unfold it and it fits your face exactly (plus the corners of the square!)
There is a slight dotted effect on the wipes, just like with the Daily Radiance wipes also by Simple. I think this is to give them that little bit more strength and that little bit more flexibility and give. For that reason, they are softer then the green packet of cleansing wipes Simple do- these don't feel scratchy on your skin.
The wipes are also fairly moist, unlike the Johnsons wipes they don't dry out as soon as you take them out of the packet- though they do dry somewhat. There is alcohol in the pack which I assume is what makes this happen. This is despite the label saying 100% oil and alcohol free. (The alcohol I am talking about is Cetearyl Alcohol, and in fact there is also PEG-35 Castor Oil and PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil in the pack. So much for oil and alcohol free!!)
I am not going to talk to you about the ingredient and pretend I know what each bit is doing, nor dicifer exactly how it stops or slows any ageing process, but I will rewrite what is on the packet itself. These wipes are aimed at those who are looking for age specific products- in order to look after ageing skin and resist ageing. Its Green tea which Simple are using the honour this claim. The pack states 3 skin loving ingredient, Green Tea Extract to fight premature ageing, Mushroom Extract to refine skin tone and texture and Oat-Beta Glucan to reduce sensitivity. There are also 'vital vitamins' pro vitamin B5 and Vitamin E to soften, smooth and improve skin condition and the additional claim of no colour and no perfume (which it does actually live up to.)
Using these wipes is very easy, they remove make-up, they remove skin surface dirt that you didn't manage to get off by washing before hand- particularly useful if you wear foundation- which I do. It always removes traces of my foundation that the cleanser missed!
My skin isn't left dry after using these wipes, far from it, its still just as soft as after I had cleansed it, which is good considering it does have alcohol in! It dries on my skin pretty quickly as well.
Taking off mascara is fairly easy, and with the size of the wipes, you can keep trying until its all off. Unlike the more expensive eye make up removers from companies such as Lancome, Clinique, Clarins..etc which seem to get everything off within 2 or 3 attempts, the wipes do take slightly longer. They work as well as the Simple Cleansing wipes in the green packet. It takes a little rubbing but unlike the Simple Cleansing wipes, don't hurt as much to rub as they are slightly smoother. But after about the 5th attempt I have normally had enough, my eyes are sore by then and I stop. By then I have nearly all- but not all, of the mascara from my eyelashes. The wipes do stay slightly moist throughout but it would be good if they were less dry, it may make the make-up removing less sore.
Overall I like these wipes. Out of all the wipes Simple do, I think these are the best. They are the least drying/most moisturising, easiest to use for getting off make-up and if your a sucker for the natural claims, they're all there. (Just don't go reading the ingredient!!) I don't know if I will buy them again- if they continue to be on offer I will, as £2 a go is fair. But at the normal price which is nearer £4 I don't really know if its worth the extra.
One major down fall about these though (aside from the chemicals in the ingredients!) is the fact that these are not environmentally sound. By flushing these, you are putting your drains at risk- wipes weather they are facial wipes, home cleaning wipes, baby wipes, are one of the biggest- if not the biggest, source of drain blockages at the moment. This is because they are not biodegradable- its like cutting up your old clothes and flushing them. So you have to make sure you throw these into the bin, which unfortunatly goes to a landfill. Better then the ocean though. (If they do get there) and less likely to end up in the belly of a sea-gull.
I was going to add that a downside was they had no scent- with green tea extract you may have hoped they smelt vaguely of the infamous Green Tea scent Elizabeth Arden did some years ago, but no scent, aside from a very mild non descript cleanser one. But remembering the over powering scent that all L'Oreal wipes seem to have which in the past had me throw away half packs of L'Oreal wipes at a time after feeling fed up with the fumigation (I never paid for the L'Oreal wipes they came free at Boots with their occasional £5 skincare vouchers). So I am glad these don't have a real scent, that way they agree with everyone and don't interfere with your perfume should you choose to wear any.
Summary: Overall the best wipes I have tried
