Advantages: Good at removing last traces of make up
Disadvantages: It stung my sensitive little face!
I was initially attracted to try this as I have quite sensitive skin which can be quite easily irritated. I chose the Simple Soothing Facial Toner as it contains chamomile and witch hazel which it claims improves the skin's condition. As it is also not perfumed, not coloured and is dermatologically approved I thought that this would be suitable for my skin. Simple are also very well know for their range of products which are suitable for sensitive skin.
The bottle claimed that it would remove the last traces of make up and clarify and refresh my skin. Though I must admit I am not sure what 'clarify' refers to in terms of skincare - I thought the 'refresh' bit sounded quite good!
Application
The bottle has a screw top lid and there is just a very small hole which means that you can easily add it to your cotton wool. The instructions on the bottle are very easy to follow and it recommends that you use the toner in the morning and at night. You basically apply with cotton wool and wipe in upward movements over the skin. As the toner is unperfumed I could find no evident smell to it.
Results
After a week of using this I had to stop as I found that the toner was irritating me. The skin between my eyebrows and on the tip of my nose stung after every application and I found it quite an uncomfortable sensation. I also found that it made my skin quite dry after use and I was not left feeling at all refreshed. This was a surprise as the toner is pH balanced and is supposed to refresh your skin without drying it out.
Summary
This toner was a big disappointment for me as I have never had any problems with products from the Simple range before. I regularly use their facial wipes and have always been very pleased with them. If anything I was mostly disappointed that it irritated me because the toner was incredibly good for removing any last traces of make up - even waterproof mascara and eyeliner.
I just did not find this product at all 'soothing' and it did very little to improve the overall condition of my skin.
This toner costs approx £2.99 for a 200ml bottle - which is a reasonable price as it will last for quite a long time. Or it will last forever if your experience is as disappointing as mine!
Summary: Not so Simple!
