Advantages: Great exfoliation, clears pores, lasts for ages
Disadvantages: Can't actually think of any
So, it's yet another Soap and Glory product review from me... I think I might be addicted to these products now.
I have been using 'Scrub Your Nose In It' for about four months now. This product is an exfoliating facial scrub designed to refine large pores and prevent blemishes. I purchased it because I have a tendency towards relatively large pores around my nose area, and if I don't exfoliate regularly I feel like they become clogged and my skin suffers as a result. I have tried a few things in the past - those strips that you put on your nose and peel off to unblock the pores, deep-cleansing face masks, peel-off face masks and other exfoliators, but I am yet to find the product that gives me an effective long-term solution to this problem. Salon facials work well for me, but unfortunately finances mean they need to be a very occasional treat and my budget is strictly high street.
Like all Soap and Glory products, 'Scrub Your Nose In It' comes in the distinctive pink packaging with retro-style graphics. There are several claims on the front of the package - apparently it is 'a multi-tasking scrub and mask marvel', 'helps refine large pores and prevent blemishes' and is a 'special fruit-acid formula to leave skin looking brighter and more radiant' - sounds good to me.
The 125ml tube contains a green, minty lotion with a fine gritty texture - the gritty bits which provide the exfoliation are very tiny and the overall feel of the product is pleasant. The smell is fresh and minty but not overpoweringly so.
The product needs to be applied to clean skin - it is not that effective as a cleanser (although I do sometimes use it as one in the shower if I'm in a rush), so it's best to use your normal cleanser first. You need to take a pea-sized dollop and massage it into your skin with small circular movements, concentrating primarily on your T-zone (nose, forehead and chin) before moving out to the other areas of your face. I think it is important to follow this process as this means that you use more of the product on the areas that need it most, and by the time you move out towards your cheeks, it is less concentrated so is less harsh on the more delicate skin in those areas.
I have been really impressed by how good an exfoliation this product provides - I've had plenty of scrubs where the gritty bits have been large and clearly visible, but this manages to provide a really abrasive scrub with the tiniest granules, My skin is much better from using this product a couple of times a week - the pores are much less noticeable and it's even helping to reduce the scar that I've got on my nose. I always follow this with a toner and moisturiser - I think this is important as using a toner will remove any traces of the product that are left behind and you do really need to moisturise after an abrasive product like this.
You can also use this product as a mask - although to be honest, I've only just read the packaging properly enough to notice that. To do this, you would apply a thin layer to your skin and leave on for 3 minutes for an oil-absorbing, brightening, pore-cleaning mask. I haven't tried using it like this, but it is definitely an added bonus.
This product costs £6.85 in Boots, although like all the Soap and Glory products it is on promotion often enough that you shouldn't have to pay full price for it. It lasts a long time too - I have been using my 125ml tube regularly for four months (at least twice a week) and there is still another few weeks worth left. In my opinion, that makes it a bargain!
Overall, I would highly recommend this product. It is one of the best facial scrubs I've tried and has definitely had a positive effect on my skin. It is really important to make sure you only use a pea-sized amount though - on the rare occasions I've used more than that I've found that it has left my skin looking very red. It is a very abrasive product and you do need to be careful. Used correctly though, it is a fabulous product and I will definitely be buying it again.
Summary: A great product for making your skin clear and bright
