Advantages: Makes skin soft and pores unclogged, affordable, doesn't feel horribly tight on skin
Disadvantages: Was hard for me to track down even in big Boots stores
After my disastrous first foray into face mask in a tube from Simple (see review!), I decided to try once more rather than stick to messy single-use sachets. After a little research, the Fab Pore mask kept cropping up again and again and I decided it would be a good product to first try the Soap and Glory range.
The range can be found in Boots or Harvey Nichols, and features kitsch packaging, punny names and from what I've heard the products are pretty damn good too.
The Fab Pore is left on the skin for 15 minutes for a "facial peel" with "exclusive "PORESHRINK-R COMPLEX". I know, ooh ahh. I will mention that the instructions are printed on a box, with the mask in a plastic screw-top tub inside, so if like me you immediately throw away the box, you're on your own. Still, it's not rocket science - dampen skin, smooth on mask, wait, rinse.
The mask itself is a salmon colour, and the consistency of clay. It smoothes on easily but does leave you looking rather ghostly, not particularly attractive, and I would recommend using this in the privacy of your own bathroom and taking a book! During the 15 minutes it is very comfortable to wear - it doesn't melt/slip off the face nor does it harden to the point that speech or facial expressions are out of the question (if you do choose to share this moment of looking ridiculous with someone else). Because it stays pretty much at its initial consistency, it is a little difficult to rinse off, but not impossible, and you are left with really soft, smooth skin.
As for the pore refining action, I'm not sure. I have never had a huge problem with my pores, if I'm honest, but my skin felt so much smoother that I'm sure this has to be down to dead skin being sloughed out of them.
I should also address the fact that despite calling itself a facial peel, you don't actually peel anything. It doesn't turn into a peelable layer, and it doesn't actually peel away any skin, as you simply rinse off.
I don't think my skin quite fits what it's aimed at - greasier, spot-prone skin, but I feel that if a mask is going to unclog pores it's also going to get rid of any excess dry skin lingering on the face, which it did quite nicely!
A 50ml jar of this product is priced at £5.88 which I feel is reasonable. I have pretty well-behaved skin, so I tend to use this now and again when I feel like it rather than on a regular basis. Therefore it should last me a REALLY long time, but used once or twice a week should still hold up for a few months, making it pretty reasonable if you ask me.
Soap and Glory products are often on 3 for 2 at Boots and there are some really nice gift sets about especially as it's getting towards Christmas. I can't wait to try out more, but I did have to have a bit of a hunt for this particular product trying three different Boots stores, so hopefully the next product of theirs I fall in love with is easier to track down!
Summary: A great product and one I will repurchase, a nice first try at Soap and Glory!
