Advantages: Great Result, Cheap, Easy
Disadvantages: Smell, Sticky
I’m not really much of a make-up girl unless I’m off out, so I’ve never really been into any make-up removers and things like that, in fact I never really bother to wash my face except in the shower. It just seems such a chore…cleanse, tone, moisturise…. never mind the fact that most products are on the pricey side, and to kit yourself out with everything you need costs a small fortune.
So for the occasional times when I want a ‘fresh’ feeling face, I want something simple and quick…so when I came across Superdrug’s ‘all in one cleansing wipes’ I was tempted…and since they were only £1 in their ‘wow for £1’ promotion, I was sold.
These wipes are perfect for me; they’re literally all you need – no sink, no water, no cotton wool, just open, wipe and throw away. Brilliant. Best of all they boast to do all the things my mum told me I should be doing when I washed my face, as they contain cleanser, eye make-up remover, toner and moisturiser.
The wipes themselves are surprisingly big – a hand-widths across and half as wide, more than enough to wipe your face at least twice over. They are quite moist and don’t dry out while you’re using them. They are coated on both sides with an almost water-like substance and leave a wet layer on your skin that lasts a few seconds. They feel cool and are quite refreshing on your skin.
They come in 2 types – fragrance free for sensitive skin (blue packet), or camomile (yellow packet) for normal skin. I purchased fragrance free, not because I have sensitive skin but because I don’t like skin products to make me smell of anything – that’s what my perfume’s for! As a result they smell, well, like un-fragranced skin products really! The smell of them doesn’t last very long luckily, it’s not an unpleasant smell, but not something you’d want to go around smelling of.
When it comes to cleaning your face they do a great job – you can see all the make-up and grime come off in your hands, which is something I find really rewarding about cleaning your face! I’d say they do just as good job as products like Clearasil. It gets rid of all the grease from your face and leaves a nice matt finish.
My two complaints about them are these; firstly, the packet works like a box of tissues, so you pull each wipe through a hole in the top of the packet. In theory you’d think, like a box of tissues, that the next wipe has an edge showing through the hole – something for you to hold to pull out the next wipe, but these don’t. I have to use my nails and take a few seconds to make sure I’m only pulling one wipe out, but I’ve pulled out 2 at a time accidentally a few times now. It’s only a small problem, but for someone with no nails I can imagine it’s a bit more annoying! Its really un-necessary, and it could be sorted easily.
My second complaint, and it’s more of a personal preference really, is that, after using the wipes your face feels a little sticky; I guess it’s the moisturiser that’s included, but I like my face to feel really clean, fresh and that kind of ‘tight’ feeling that you get with some cleaning products. You don’t get this at all with these wipes, and its for this reason that I probably wouldn’t buy them again, I might look for a similar wipe that was just cleanser and toner for a fresher feeling.
These wipes have got a lot going for them and could do much more than sit in your bathroom – they’re perfect for taking on holiday or keeping in the car to use as wet wipes or for when your face feels hot and sticky. They clean your face perfectly and get rid of all your make-up; and all in a few seconds. They’d be great for blokes too. The packet is small and very handy to carry around – and contains 40 wipes.
I think they are still on £1 promotion this month, but their usual price is about £2. This is still much cheaper than the bigger brands and I don’t imagine their wipes are any better. It’s completely worth it for lazy people like me – they’re amazingly handy, and they do a great job. Well done Superdrug!
