Advantages: works a treat, suitable for sensitive skin
Disadvantages: expensive
After my experiment with the vitamin E range from the Body Shop, I then realised my skin was slightly more sensitive than I had first thought. During the same shopping spree when I bought the vitamin E products I received a gift set as a freebie which included some trial sized aloe face creams.
The aloe soothing night cream was the first I tried because I wanted to try and restore my skin to its former beauty (I can dream).
My reasoning for choosing the night cream over the day cream first was because your skin gets the most chance to restore itself at night when you are asleep so I was trying to help it on its way.
The night cream is packaged in a pot with screw lid which is easy enough to open and close even with wet hands after cleansing. The packaging appears to have a very natural feel to it, with subtle pictures of aloe leaves and then the traditional peel back labels the Body Shop produce on their packaging now.
The cream states clearly that it is suitable for sensitive skin which was a good start.
As I opened the pot for the first time I stuck my nose in for a good whiff, and was greeted with a subtle smell but there was nothing distinctive about it. For a night cream this was a good thing as I don't want to have a strong smell on my face when I need to sleep.
The cream itself has a very thick consistency. It's almost as thick as the body butters from the Body Shop. I was slightly surprised by this to start with but after a bit of consideration I was quite pleased that this thick cream was going to have all night to properly soak into my skin and hopefully do some magic.
When I started using this night cream, my skin had a few dry flay patches appearing under my eye area and on the jaw line. I was hoping the cream was going to get rid of these dry patches, so the experiment commenced.
Night one:
Applying the cream I thought I was going to need a lot as it was so thick, but it was surprising how little I needed, and also how easily it was absorbed. I couldn't see much of it at all after I had massaged into my skin.
On very close inspection in the mirror, I could see my dry patches but they looked duller already. I wasn't fooled by this as that happened when I used the regular moisturiser and the patches were still there the next day.
The morning after the night before:
I was pleased to see the dry patches had reduced overnight but only very slightly. Clearly I wasn't using a miracle cream but I was willing to give it a good length of time to see what would happen.
I had also decided not to use the complimenting day cream until I knew if the night cream was going to suit my face, so I went naked for a few days.
The morning after night two:
My skin was beginning to feel slightly softer to the touch and seemed to be recovering some of its former glory. The dry patches were still there but they were visibly better and less rough to the touch.
My skin took about a week to restore itself completely. Using the night cream has definitely helped to improve the condition of my skin especially after I did it such an injustice with the previous products.
Overall I was pleased I had received these trail sizes and I will definitely be buying the full sized when I run out. As you don't need a lot on your face each night a pot will last a long time with an application each night.
The 50ml pot will cost you £10, and contains aloe Vera gel, sesame oil and Shea butter. The full list of ingredients can be seen on the website if you want to investigate them further.
Summary: a brilliant night cream
