Advantages: Scent.
Disadvantages: See review.
The lip butters offered by the body shop are intended as an intensive treat for the lips, a once a day kind of thing. I really want to like them, I've bought several in the hope that "next time it will be better", but I have at last admitted defeat, as I'm sure you can tell by my rating. I have used all in the range except Brazil nut (I don't like the scent). This review is in extreme contrast to the others, I know.
So where did the stars go?
*FUNCTION*
Put simply, it doesn't work. When I've used it on mildly dry lips, it does nothing. On very dry lips? Nothing. Perfect lips? Nothing. There's just no discernible effect on the lips.
*APPEARANCE*
It gives a patchy opaqueness when applied, not an attractive look. It is neither matte or shiny, just creamy looking, like a pale lipstick with tide lines. Before you rush to write a comment, yes this still occurs with light use, I'm not scooping out half the tub!
*QUALITY*
Warm summer weather melts the butter, after which it will never be the same as it was when bought (and it doesn't improve it either!). While I recognize that all lip balms melt, it seems to me that the lip butter reacts to far smaller temperature changes. This makes it useless as a take with you beauty product.
*TEXTURE*
The texture in all types is grainy and leaves bumps of product all over lips so needs wiping off, thus defeating the point of applying a leave on product.
*VALUE*
10 ml = £5 Quite a cheeky price for a product that you will use up in a month with once a day use. Compare body shop lip balms, £3 for 10 ml, a far better buy. Compare even to Vaseline at around £1, the lip butter is left far behind in terms of value.
*THE GOOD*
The only redeeming factor are the scents, which, true to body shop form, are delicious. But if you particularly like a scent the body scrub or body butter is a far better buy. Take my advice, splash out on those instead.

- 26/08/09 Oh guys I know. It's unbelievable that when all their other products either hit the mark or come close that this could be such a spectacular failure! |

- 25/08/09 I'm amazed! How difficult must it be to make a decent lip balm nowadays? - You'd think they would have worked it out by now, considering their body butters are quite nice...! |
