Advantages: Nice smell, consistency
Disadvantages: Expensive for everyday
Buttery lips
The last time I was in The Body Shop I was in a bit of a mango mood, it's probably the time of year, cold nights, dreary days etc but something about the bright orangey/yellow mango packaging as well as the delicious smell attracted me to their products.
I also absolutely love the taste of Mangos, they are juicy, sweet and very tropical tasting so knew I would love their products. At the same time as I bought The Body Shop Mango Body Butter I also decided to try The Body Shop Mango Lip Butter.
According to an article I read, Mangoes belong to the genus Mangifera, consisting of numerous species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae. Cultivated in many tropical regions and distributed widely in the world, mango is one of the most extensively exploited fruits for food, juice, flavor, fragrance and color, making it a common ingredient in new functional foods often called superfruits. I think this makes it a perfect smell/flavour for the Body Shop to be reproducing.
I have never tried any of their lip butter products but have always been quite curious about them and how they worked, what they tasted like etc whilst they were on your lips.
A tub of the mango lip butter looks exactly like a tub of Body butter except for the fact that it is quite a bit smaller. It comes with a picture of a very succulent piece of mango on the front and has a screw lid on the top making it easy to get in and out of the plastic tub.
Now, onto the consistency. At first I thought it would be a bit weird putting a "butter" on my lips and was thinking it was going to be more like a cream, ie the Body Butter than an actual lip product. However, the consistency of this lip butter is more like a waxy substance with the delightful smell of mango. It contains organic beeswax which is probably how it gets its thickness and this is said to help moisturise and condition the lips. According to their website, it acts as a barrier that helps to seal in moisture and helps to keep product texture consistent, when used over time. The beeswax comes from the remote tropical forests of North West Zambia, where the extra income helps more than 3,000 beekeepers preserve their traditional way of life. This also helps to protect and preserve the forest as well as providing necessary income for the beekeepers. So, who knew, by buying this product you are also helping a remote part of the world. This has always been part of The Body Shop's philosophy and I think a great reason to buy the product over other beauty products out there.
The product also contains mango seed butter which moisturises the lips. I did like using this product. I found it quite fun and gimmicky. The smell was delicious and it did make my lips nice and smooth but I think for everyday use I would probably just stick with using a little tub of Vaseline as this added no colour to my lips and is a bit expensive for what it is.
A 10ml pot costs £4.85 and is available in stores or from their website.
