Advantages: Nice packaging, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Did not noticeably improve skin
I have tried many different facial moisturisers (as my reviews will show!) and in my experience The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream is a pretty mixed bag - not by any means the best on the market, nor the worst. So I am going to attempt to give a fair overview of the product and you can decide for yourself whether you fancy trying it.
A 50ml pot costs £9, which is a mid-range price for facial moisturisers and so I was not expecting miracle results compared to the premium £50+ a pot brands. I think its middling price aligns itself quite well with its middling performance. I was not dissappointed because it did not cost the earth, but had it been more expensive I would have been.
I feel in the interests of fairness I ought to let you know that this product is no longer available online on The Body Shop's website and the shops are currently offloading any remaining stock they have of it. It has been replaced by 2 Vitamin E moisturisers - Illuminating Moisture Cream (50ml for £9) and Intense Moisture Cream (50ml for £12) - so if you want to try it, get yourself to a store quickly. I have a pot left as I got lots for my birthday last year, although it has been sitting untouched for a while as I have found other products I prefer in the meantime.
The moisturiser comes in a 50ml pot, which sounds a fair quantity but in reality is a pretty tiny. The pot is matt pale pink (as is the entire Vitamin E range) with a black screw-off lid. The overall effect is quite striking - the black and pink combination is an effective one.
You scoop the product out of the pot using your fingers, and apply to your face and neck, rubbing it in until it has disappeared. It is fairly thick in my opinion, and you feel as though you are caked despite only using a little bit, as it is fairly heavy when it is rubbed in. It does not absorb quickly so in the morning I find that if I have used it I need to wait a good 30 minutes before applying makeup if I want an even finish - again not ideal.
Its smell manages to be relatively inoffensive but yet always reminds me of being slightly stale. I am not keen on it - bland and stale is not a great combination and despite not having an obviously strong fragrance, I can smell it all day in a way that I cannot with other stronger smelling creams and I really dislike this.
In the morning, it left my skin feeling greasy rather than soft and smooth. However when I used it before bed my skin was noticeably soft and smooth upon waking the next day - although my hair was greasy unless pinned right back off my face. As I said at the beginning - not horrific but by no means a must-buy product!
Summary: A middling performance from a mid-range product
