Advantages: nice colour when just applied

Disadvantages: felt horrible and made my lips look worse

I suffer from chapped lips not only in the winter but occasionally throughout the rest of the year too. I've used many products to help keep my lips nice and soft but you can't beat good old vaseline for a cheap and effective way to keep your lips feeling soft. I've tried a couple of the tins of lip balms in the vaseline range and always been happy with them so I was sure that the new product for rosy lips would be just as good.

This product comes in a 20g tin and cost around £1.50 instead of £1 for the original vaseline. When you open the tin you are greeted with a dusky pink colour which is really pretty and girly. It also smells lovely too, the smell of roses is really subtle.

Onto the test of how good it is at actually moisturising my lips. The lip balm is runnier than normal vaseline products and feels really greasy on my fingers but goes nicely onto my lips. I hate the way it feels on my lips, it feels like I've put a horrible oily coating onto them and I feel the need to constantly lick and purse them where I have applied the product. Worse than that, after using the product for a couple of days my lips have feel slightly sore and I don't feel like they have benefited from using the product at all, in fact they feel worse. The only good thing about this lip balm is that it leaves an extremely pale pink sheen over your lips when first applied which makes them look nice.

I passed this onto my daughter to use. Being 12 she has a weird obsession with different lip balms and was at first delighted that I had given it to her. She described it like putting perfume on your lips and also found it unpleasant and the lip balm was soon discared by her too.

This is the only product in the vaseline range that I have had a problem with. I'm guessing it is the fact that it is perfumed that my lips didn't like. Combining perfume and colour with good old vaseline is a nice idea in principle but in practice it just doesnt work very well.

Summary: Stick to the original

I only use this at night as I find it far too greasy to wear duing the day, Susan
