Advantages: Long lasting, Sweet, Unique

Disadvantages: Not everyone likes sweet

So, there I was, sitting at another airport once upon a time, wondering what I could do with my time. Usually I went to get some more books, being a voracious reader, but this time I opted for the Duty Free. Once again I sauntered through the fragrance aisles until accosted by a lucious lady who asked me if I'd like to smell Opium?

Sure! I'll do some of that with you if you want, I thought. Alas she decided to spray some of YSL's Opium EDT for men on my exposed forearm (did I say she grabbed my arm to give me the false idea of a poppy induced fantasy? Well she did).

Now, being a man who had pretty much bought loads of EDTs on various trips (some of the reviews are scattered around this site), I thought I was rather au fait with what was new and cool. Boy, was I wrong. Here I was, engulfed in what I can only define as a sweet aroma. This Opium thingy had me sold there and then. As usual though I had to see if it was just me or whether other people liked it, so being curious (I'm much braver when curious) I recall asking some poor woman to tell me what she thought of it whist the lucious lady with the bottle looked on. Can't recall the exact words, but lets just say I bought a bottle.

So what did I buy?

A rather tall, elegantly shaped bottle (100ml), that resembles a cross between a greek elliptical based pillar, and an oriental styling. Can't define it, its one to see.

The key though, was what the smell was. Lets start with the blindingly obvious, its sweet. I'm not talking Joop sweet, no way. This thing is just...sweet. It reminds me of the smell young kids have after eating some spicy sweets. This on its own wouldn't be enough for YSL, so theyve added interesting bits to it. Vanilla is there, as well as some rather masculine basenotes. This comes together to give you something that achieves two purposes...

1) If you like spicy and sweet things, you will be instantly awakened by th
is in the morning when u spray it on. It really does get you goin.

2) Lets just say, the more refined women love it to bits. There's only so much CK that a woman can take u know ;)

The one final blessing of this lovely cologne is what it does during the day. Firstly, it doesn't disappear. Unlike other so called expensive colognes, Opium has a great remnant all day, so no need to worry about it wearing off.
Secondly, and to its utmost credit, if sprayed on pulse points, the moment you arrive in a meeting or get your heat up, you leave a trail that has women wondering what hit them and men confused to bits as to why you don't smell of D&G Homme or 212 Men.

In all, u gotta love what YSL have done in Opium, its a definite winner.
