Advantages: Covers most blemishes and lightens dark areas of the face

Disadvantages: Quite expensive

I hadn?t actually heard about this product until a couple of years ago when a work colleague asked me to purchase one for her at the Duty Free shop in the airport as I was due to go abroad on holiday. She told me that she couldn?t be without it and that it covered a multitude of sins on her face each morning. I didn?t think too much more about it until a few weeks ago. You see, I do suffer from thread veins on the cheeks of my face and I have tried just about every concealer on the market but nothing has really been very effective. When applying my makeup I would keep thinking ?how on earth can I get a concealer that will do the job to cover this redness??

So, a couple of weeks ago, whilst visiting Salisbury I visited Beauty Fulltime, a shop which I found several weeks ago (see my Nina Ricci Lipstick review) and asked if they had YSL Touche Eclat as I had looked and couldn?t see it. I spoke to a Spanish (well, I think she was Spanish) lady who said she was a beauty therapist and she took me straight to the shelf containing the product. She went on to say (and say, and say) how great it was, that all the top models and celebrities used it and that once you start using it then you won?t ever want to be without it. So, I bought it.

Let me tell you about Touche Eclat. Apparently, it has been marketed for several years and it is sometimes known as ?a magic wand? and it not only acts as a concealer but a highlighter as well. Highlighters are an important part of makeup as they reflect the light away from the dark eyes around our eyes, especially the soft, fleshy part underneath the eye. It is available in two shades but Beauty Fulltime only had one shade.

It is packaged to look very expensive (which it actually is!) and the outer packaging is gold and the actual highlighter tu
be is gold also. It has a removable top which reveals about 0.5? of foam-like material (rather similar to a felt tipped pen but much classier) and has a ?click? button at the other end of the tube. It does state that you should click the end of the tube (similar to clicking a pen) up to 30 times to allow the liquid to penetrate to the end of the tube. This, I find, is very helpful as it means that you will never waste a drop of the liquid thereby making it last so much longer.

Before I applied the liquid I thought to myself ?how did she say I should apply it?? Was it by using the pen itself? Then I remembered. She told me the best way to apply it was to dab it onto the relevant areas and then pat the liquid very gently with the tips of my fingers until it has smoothed over the affected area. Now the first time I applied the liquid I thought ?what the hell does that look like?. It looked extremely light and I thought that I had totally wasted my money. Anyhow, I had to continue applying my makeup so I applied a minute amount into the corner area of my eyes which seem to have become quite dark lately. Finished applying my makeup and looked at myself in the mirror. Did I see a difference? Well, actually, yes I did. I couldn?t see the redness of my cheeks showing through and my makeup looked really nice. You can put the liquid on any area of your face that has blemishes or needs highlighting.

After using this product for several days I am starting to get a little bit more expert on its application and am really starting to appreciate it. I have noticed that my makeup appears to ?stay in place? longer so the redness does not appear to show through the makeup as quickly as previously.

I really don?t how long this product will last me. I normally wear foundation etc. Mondays to Fridays (when I am work) bu
t on Saturdays and Sundays and any other days off then I usually only wear eye makeup and lipstick so, hopefully, it will last me quite some time (here?s hoping anyway!).

I actually paid £19.50 at Beauty Fulltime and I thought I must have got a bargain because I know BF really does sell bargain cosmetics. I knew the normal retail price was c£21 so I had saved a little bit money.

However, I did a search on Ciao today and two sites appeared selling this product at quite a substantial saving to the price I paid:-

www.halfpriceperfumes.co.uk £14.95
www.eauzonebeauty.com £17.95 (this site gives £22 as the RRP)

So, when I need to replace it I will probably look on Ciao (stupid me, I should have looked on here first anyway!) and get it much cheaper.

You should also be able to purchase it at most major department stores. Perhaps also look on Ebay.

I would highly recommend the purchase of this product and it is really quite simple to use.

I've been toying with the idea of buying one of these for ages and I think you've just cost me a lot of money...
