Skin Ceuticals Antioxidant Lip Repair
by walsha11
I recently purchased a few different skin ceuticals product out of curiosity about whether the brand lives up to the large price tag. This is a good product but with so many more affordable options out there I can't justify buying it again.
The product comes in a small silver bottle with pump and lid. The pump works exactly as ... it should do and the size is very handy for a lip product. I like the design of the bottle, it is functional and attractive whilst being simple enough that you know they have invested more in the product itself than a gimmicky design. One pump is plenty to coat your lips and I would advise a little more if your lips are particularly chapped or dry. My main issue with the design is not being able to see how much is left inside the bottle and also not being able to access the contents once it does start running out. This is a major annoyance for me especially with expensive products where you want to get your moneys worth.
The product is essentially a lip conditioner rather than a salve or balm. It is aimed at relieving sore, dry or chapped lips and this is where it distinguishes itself from a regular lip salve. I would therefore save it for occasions where my lips are feeling dry. It is also something I would apply in moderation because of the price of the product. That is fine because it has a specific use so however much I like it I know I can reserve it for when my lips need a little more nourishment. I probably wouldn't use it in the daytime but maybe in the mornings or when I go to sleep to moisturiser over night. I also would avoid using it with colours or tints - it is expensive so I primarily use it for the specific purpose it is designed for.
It is supposed to make your lips appear fuller and reduce the appearance of fine lines. I have yet to find a product that actually does this so I wasn't especially disappointed when I found this once failed to do what it says. It does provide UV protection which is a little added bonus but not something I necessarily look for either. I didn't see much improvement in the look or feel of my lips other than that it reduced redness and soreness around the skin.
I think if this product came in a tube or tub it would earn more points from me. The pump is flashy but unnecessary - if a product is good I want to be able to use all of it. I do think it is probably the most effective lip product I've used on chapped and sore lips so if this is a consistent problem for you then I would definitely consider purchasing it. However, at £28.00 a tube I would shop around for cheaper products which are effective for you and use this if nothing else suits.
For me there are other products on the market which are maybe slightly less effective but cheaper and more versatile. Read the complete review |

Skin Ceuticals Clarifying Clay Masque
by walsha11
This is another of my recent skin ceuticals purchases. I would say this is one of the products I am moderately happy with. It is the lower end of the price range within the brand (which was probably part of the appeal) and I do love a face mask so I knew I had to try it.
The design of the product is rather simple, like most ... of the items in this brand. I like the fact that they focus more on the product than the way it looks because this gives me faith that the product will be of a high quality. The pot is lightly frosted with a silver metal lid that twists on and off. I like the jar design as it makes it really easy to get all of the product out of the container. I also think the lid is very good as it feels secure and I would not be nervous travelling with it. I also like the simplicity of the design, it looks expensive without being gimmicky or gaudy and would certainly make an excellent looking gift for someone.
The masque uses mostly natural ingredients, kaolin clay and bentonite are some of them, to help reduce oiliness in skin and create a fresh, youthful effect. It is very effective in terms of leaving your face feeling fresh and healthy. I'm not sure I can comment at the reduction in oiliness as I do not suffer from oily skin. However, the product does leave my skin feeling dry afterwards so I would imagine it does work as it says. After removing the masque my skin does feel tighter and perhaps a little dry. I do generally moisturise straight away afterwards to combat this and it doesn't really present a major problem for me as I only use the product once a week. I think if you used it more regularly you might find it leaves your skin feeling a little dry and dehydrated, but then I wouldn't advise using it this regularly if only because of the price. It makes my skin feel instantly smoother and gives me a lovely even complexion. I found it sensitive to my skin which can sometimes be dry and irritable. I would advise testing the product if you do suffer from sensitive skin as the price means it is quite an investment. However, based on my experiences I never found it to irritate my skin.
I was a little apprehensive before using this product that the clay might make it particularly flakey and would basically create an absolute mess. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very smooth creamy consistency to the product that dries hard but does not flake. It is very easy to apply to your face and can be left for anything between 5-20 minutes depending on how deep you want your skin cleansed. It washes off very easily although it does take a couple of goes with some water to remove it all.
The product is roughly £28 for a 60 ml pot. This is probably where my problem with the product lies. I do think it is a quality product but I know for a fact there are cheaper face masks on the shelves which offer probably a similar level of quality. It doesn't stand out enough for it to warrant such a high price and that is very disappointing.
So, overall? I wouldn't buy it again but I am happy I tried it. Read the complete review |

Skin Ceuticals Equalizing Toner Pore Refining Toner
by walsha11
Another of my recently purchased and reviewed Skin Ceuticals products - and this one if a firm favourite. I actually don't tend to use a toner regularly and I think the fact that I liked it so much anyway reflects well on the product.
The product comes in a white plastic bottle with black spray pump and clear lid. The design ... is inoffensive and functional. The fact that the product has such a simple design and yet such a large price makes me immediately assume all the money is spent of refining and perfecting a great product. This isn't a gimmicky product designed to make you spend more than you need to, they create a simple design and great product in the hope that once you've tried it you'll be hooked, and I think I am.
My immediate reaction to the toner is the smell - it is described as fragrance free but I don't think that is strictly true. It does have a smell though not one that is easily distinguishable, it smells synthetic almost and this is probably due to the different chemicals used in the product. I don't actually find the smell particularly offensive but I think for a more expensive product they could probably do with adding a light floral note to it just to make it a little more pleasant. That said, it did not put me off using the product at all.
The spray pump is very effective at dispensing the toner mist over your face. I think it is far easier to use than other similar products because all you need is the spray, rather than an array of additional things to apply it with. I liked the feel of the product, it is not at all oily or greasy and feel very light and refreshing. It is a great product for summer or holidays but I think if you used it in winter it might dry out your skin. It absorbs into the skin pretty quickly leaving you with soft skin that can have other products applied to it within 5 minutes. Overall I really like the effect if has on my skin. It seems to visibly reduce pores, and this is not even a problem I particularly suffer from. It also makes my skin look younger and brighter and gives me a great even base upon which I can apply my makeup. Like many of the skin ceutical product I find them good for sensitive skin, I often have quite dry skin and this product did not irritate any broken parts. I think if you do have sensitive skin it is always advisable to test the product before purchasing where possible because if you invest in this one and it does irritate your skin you have paid quite a lot for it. That said, based on my experience I would say that it is sensitive to irritated skin.
The price for this product is £28 for 240ml. There is no denying there are cheaper products on the market but I have to say having never really used a toner consistently before because I've never found a good one this is definitely a more effective product. You are paying for quality which in this case I am happy to do.
I would buy it again because it does wonders for my skin. Read the complete review |
