Skin Ceuticals Daily Moisture

Skin Ceuticals is one of those brands, much like dermalogica, that I strongly associate with quality at quite some cost. I am always slightly torn with these kinds of brands and shop around for cheaper products that offer similar quality with a cheaper price tag. There are some products I do always come back to because they simply are ... incredible and that means they are well worth the cost for me. This is not one of them unfortunately.
I think because of the huge price tag, roughly £55 for 12 fl oz., I had huge expectations for this product. I think that is probably the number one issue with very expensive products, unless they literally give me the smoothness of a baby combined with the looks of Jessica Alba then I probably won't be impressed. That's probably an exaggeration - but you get my point?
The product come in a a lovely frosted glass pot with silver metal lid. The overall look of the product is very clean, fresh and un-gimmicky. It looks like an expensive product, but more than that it doesn't look over designed. Meaning that most of the focus will have been on producing a fantastic product that really lives up to the description. The jar is quite heavy, though at 12 fl. oz the size isn't huge. I like that it is a pot because you know you will be able to get everything out of it, and at this price you'll want to. It also means if you take too much it is easy to put back in the jar, meaning there is no waste. I also like the lid - it goes on easy and is very secure. I would be careful reapplying the lid with greasy hands though as the metal can be quite slippery. Overall I was fairly impressed by the look of it and it certainly would make a lovely, expensive looking gift.
The moisturiser is designed for normal to oily skin. I would class my skin type as normal to dry so perhaps this wasn't the best match for me. However, as it says it is appropriate for normal skin I didn't worry too much about it. The product espouses to help reduce visible pores through a combination of vitamins and minerals. I like that they try to use as many natural products as possible, including extract of ginger and cinnamon, although I am less familiar with some of the ingredients listed. The natural ingredients combine to make a very fresh smelling cream, I would almost describe it as a sort of leafy/grassy smell. It is fairly pleasant and not at all overpowering when applied. The moisturiser is lightweight, as described, but thick enough that it feels like an expensive cream. When you apply it to the skin it does feel very nice and it absorbs quickly which I think is great. I have a cream that sticks to the surface of your skin making it difficult to use before applying makeup. This cream absorbs quickly enough that within 5 minutes you have a great base upon which to apply other products. I tend to use it predominantly on my face, although I have put a little bit on my neck and chest before and found the results good.
The cream does leave my skin feeling smooth and healthy. It hydrates my sometimes dry skin, but I do find that within a couple of hours I would probably need to reapply this or another product to keep my skin feeling moisturised. I did find it sensitive to my dry skin though, some products irritate broken skin but this one was very soothing and gave no irritation. If you have sensitive skin I would advise seeing if you can get a sample of this cream and testing it, as if it does irritate you skin then you will have paid a lot for it. However, my guess would be that it would be sensitive to irritable skin based on my experience.
In terms of reducing pores I didn't see much of a difference. I think like any good cream is does reduce visible pores to a certain extent, but with such an expensive product and this being its main selling point I wasn't especially convinced. Saying that, I don't find visible pores to be much of a problem for me so perhaps it would be more effective on someone with larger pores that are more obvious. I was hoping that this product might go some way in reducing breakouts in my skin. I don't have breakouts that regularly but probably find a spot/spots once a week. Sometimes this is worse depending on my diet and other variables but whilst using the cream I found breakouts in my skin fairly consistent with when I wasn't using it.
So, overall? I wouldn't buy it again. I think with the price come a lot of expectations which aren't completely fulfilled with this product. If this cream retailed at £20 rather than £55 I probably would forgo my regular moisturiser in favour of this one. However, I do think there are far cheaper products on the market that offer perhaps not quite the same quality but almost.

Skin Ceuticals Gentle Cleanser

I'm one of those unlucky teenagers who have problems with facial skin. I have been battling acnes and red spots ever since I hit puberty. Compared to 2 years ago, my facial skin is looking better but I have to make sure that I choose the right products for my skin to keep the acnes as minimal a problem as possible. This is when I was ... recommeded the above product by one of my friends. I bought this product quite some time ago per my friend's suggestion and also since I've got some gift vouchers.
The Skin Ceuticals gentle cleanser comes in a white plastic bottle with a black nozzle that has press-and-pump action similar to lotion bottles. The bottle is simple in design and the pump is quite smooth, so I have no problems trying to get the pump to work. I've paid around £20.00 for a 240 ml bottle of this cleanser from amazon.co.uk. Personally, I think it's a bit pricey for a facial cleanser but the quantity you get is twice as much compared to some other cleansers.
As for how it works, I usually use one to two pumps in the showers and this is enough to clean my face if I have a light layer of make-up on. However, after a long day at uni, my face gets really oily and I would have to wash my face twice to get all the make-up and oil off my face. One problem I have is that it doesn't really clean my eye make-up, especially it leaves dark smudges of eye liner and it is really frustrating to see the panda eyes when I come out of the shower. In retrospect, I think it is because this cleanser is aiming for a gentle touch and maybe removing eye make-up effectively requires some heave duty chemicals.
From my experience, I think the product does leave my skin smooth and clean without any irritation. The main reason I started using this product to tone down my acnes and spots; but after using this product for two months, it doesn't really feel that the product has any significant affects in controlling the acnes. In my opinion, I think it is a good cleanser for normal sensitive skin; it just doesn't do a good job in terms of keeping acnes at bay.
I finished this product about 3 months ago and since then I've started to use a different type of cleanser. From my experience, having a good night sleep and good eating habits have a great influence in reducing the acnes. Therefore, I think choosing the right cleanser is important but there are other factors at play in my case. The product from Skin Ceuticals didn't leave me disappointed but I'm not entirely impressed by its performance, especially since the price is quite high and I expect it to deliver well. Nevertheless, this product might the right one for someone with the right skin type, so I wouldn't rule this out completely.
