Tesco Micro-Lite Mummy Sleeping Bag
by flodombey
We bought two of these sleeping bags late last year to take camping with us. we paid around the £15 mark for each which seemed like a bargain at the time, but I notice they are currently on sale via Tesco Direct online for £11 each so even more of a good deal!
These are tapered 'mummy' shaped sleeping bags, meaning that they ... are wider at the top than the bottom with the idea being that they fit to a human body quite snugly. This has both pros and cons to my mind, I am not the kind of person who sleeps in one position all night and I did find I woke up feeling like I was fighting my way out of the bag on occassion, however, in cold weather there is nothing quite like being zipped into one of these for creating a warm and cosy environment very quickly.
My husband (who literally sleeps like a log and does not move once hes out) had no problems whatsoever with his bag.
Because is is very lightweight, this bag is ideal for travelling with and in fact we carried them with us on our travels around South East Asia last year as we knew we would be staying in some hostels and this saved us using/renting bedding in some of them. The bag rolls very tight and has compression straps attached so the space it uses up when compressed is very impressively minimal. I am surprised that such a cheap bag is not far more bulky.
Despite being so lightweight the bag is very warm indeed and it is made from micro fibres and polyester lining with a tog rating of 240. I do not think this bag is intended for use in extreme temperatures below freezing - and at this price I would not expect it to be - but for general use in standard UK weather conditions it would be fine.
The zips are fully reversible and seem very strong, we have had no problems with the zips at all and all the seams are durable and well stiched. The quality you get here for the price is very impressive indeed. Our bags are lime coloured on the inside and a graphite colour on the outside.
The length of the bag is 215cm or 86", it is long enough for even my 6ft husband to sleep in comfortably and for me at 5'3" it is more than adequate.
I think this is a great value product and being able to buy it from Tesco has the added bonus of earning clubcard points on the purchase too! Read the complete review |

Tesco Micro-Lite Mummy Sleeping Bag
by hunts1874
I bought this from Tesco last summer for one of my camping trips. I had an old sleeping bag that had seen better days and had been to one too many festivals and camping trips. At the time of my purchase it cost around £20. However, I see it's reduced to £11 at the moment which is an absolute steal in my opinion.
This is a ... Mummy Sleeping Bag which means that it is narrower at the bottom than it is at the top. There is a hood at the top of the sleeping bag too, so when you are in it, it is just your face poking out. There is also a double sided zip which I find makes getting in and out of the sleeping bag easier as you can operate the zip from inside your sleeping bag.
The sleeping bag is made out of Polyester so you have to be careful if you are sitting in your sleeping bag around the camp fire, not something that I personally do, but I know some of my friends have in the past.
I have only ever used the sleeping bag in the Scottish Summer, so I wouldn't imagine that temperatures have got much before 8 - 10 degrees Celsius even over night. I have also found that I have been warm enough in this sleeping bag. I don't know how the sleeping bag would coupe in more severe weather conditions.
The sleeping bag is nice and light-weight and weighs 0.9kg which makes it ideal for ramblers who carry their camping equipment around with them. I have never had any problems in rolling the sleeping bag up to get it back into the bag. I have often struggled with this in the past with other sleeping bags I have owned.
The sleeping bag is 220 long, which is more than long enough for my 6ft frame and it is 80cm at its widest point and 50cm at its narrowest.
It's a great product which is made all the better now you can pick it up for £11. I would definitely recommend this to family and friends. It's the ideal product for the ocassional camper or festival go-er. Read the complete review |

Tesco Micro-Lite Mummy Sleeping Bag
by dreamer87
Tesco Direct (online store) and some larger Tesco stores have started to stock camping and other outdoors equipment as camping becomes more popular for us Brits. This may be something to do with the recession as a family can camp at a fraction of the cost of staying in a hotel or holidaying abroad. I went into my nearest large Tesco ... store recently to see what sleeping bags, if any, they had for my camping trip to Wales. We only camped for two nights so I didn't want to pay a lot for a sleeping bag that wasn't going to get much use.
I managed to find a 'Mummy' style sleeping bag which gets it's name as it tapers down and gets shorter in width as it travels down the body towards the feet. This means there is not a huge amount of room to move around especially at the bottom end by your feet so if your a little fidgety in your sleep this may not be the right style for you! It has a hooded top which can be tightened to closely surround the head so only Your face is exposed. The sleeping bag stated that it was suitable for Spring, Summer and Autumn but a winter specific sleeping bag would be needed for the cold of the winter. I think three out of four seasons is great for a sleeping bag and I'd expect to have to get something a little more insulated for the winter, not that I'd camp in the winter anyway!
The sleeping bag comes rolled in its own storage bag. The weight of the rolled sleeping bag is a lightweight 0.8kg, making this an ideal sleeping bag for backpackers and people who need warmth and comfort without weight. This also means it can be tied to a rucksack without adding too much extra weight. The storage bag also has four straps which can be tightened squash the sleeping bag into a 14 x 14x 29cm cylinder shaped parcel which is an excellent size to pack into a rucksack.
The sleeping bag measures 220cm in length when unravelled and is 80cms at it's widest point, narrowing down to 50cms at the foot. The sleeping bag is very light in weight when unravelled and at first I thought this would mean poor insulation but I was wrong. Cleverly there is a 2 sided zip, so you can zip yourself in from the inside. The zips are good quality, they do not get snagged on the material and end up with the material of the bag in between the teeth of the zip which I always found very annoying on previous sleeping bags I'd owned.
Once your all zipped into the bag, it warms from your body very quickly without getting too stuffy. The lining is very soft and cosy and it wasn't hard for me or my parter to fall asleep very quickly (might have been something to do with climbing Snowdon that day!). My partner is 6'3 and he just about had enough room in this bag but couldn't do with it being any shorter. If it got a little chilly in the night, I only felt the cold on my face, the only part exposed, so I'd tighten the chord around the hood of the bag to bring it in a little and keep more heat in. I found this a comfort and slept very well in this.
The sleeping bag is made of polyester so although it is flame retardant, this should be kept away from fire at all costs. The material allows for the sleeping bag to be wiped down with a damp cloth on the outside, but to be cleaned inside I'd get it dry cleaned or hand washed.
Overall, I am really happy with this purchase, it was a lot warmer and more comfortable than I was expecting and I had a lovely sleep in it. If you are looking for a good quality sleeping bag that won't break the bank then this is worth £22. It's also worth having a look in the big Tesco stores or online at Tesco Direct at their camping equipment as their range seems to be growing which is only a good thing!
