Asda Slow Cooker
Advantages: Good price, easy cooking
Disadvantages: No timer, no meal ideas
I received this slow cooker a few years ago as a Christmas present from my Mum. It was a bit of a surprise for me, but she seemed to think that I had mentioned I really wanted one - no recollection of that but as it turns out it was a fantastic gift! I love my slow cooker and I use it all the time.
This particular model is at the lower/cheaper end of the market but it works perfectly well. It is extremely simple to put together as there are only a few parts to it - the outer shell of the cooker with the temperature gauge on, the removable ceramic bowl which you cook the food in, and the glass lid - simples!
Using the product
The slow cooker really is such an easy way to cook and is great if you just don't have time to slave over a hot oven but do want to eat proper, healthy meals. To prepare your meal you simply chop/measure all of your ingredients, chuck them in the cooker, turn it on to the correct level and set your timer. Your recipe will tell you how to cut up your ingredients and in which order to put them into the slow cooker and it really is as easy as that. You should check on it occasionally and give it a quick stir if you can but other than that there is nothing else required of you in order to prepare a delicious meal, and if you are out/at work all day you can set it when you leave in the morning (not worrying about stirring) and have dinner waiting when you get home.
Cleaning and storing
When you have finished with the cooker the cooking bowl lifts easily out of the shell making it very simple to wash up, and you don't have to worry about any electrical as they are all attached to the shell part. For this I usually just give a quick wipe over with a wet cloth as it doesn't come into contact with the food and therefore doesn't get dirty. Unfortunately I have a tiny kitchen so I have to store my slow cooker in its box in a cupboard but if I had a decent sized kitchen I would definitely leave this out on the surface as it looks smart and classy and, although it is big enough to prepare a meal for 4, it is really quite compact and wouldn't look out of place on your worktop.
Although I think this is a great product, especially for the price, there are two factors that I can conceive may be viewed as negatives. Firstly, there are no recipes given with the cooker - just a couple of recipes on a sheet of paper so you could try out your product straight away would have been a nice touch on the part of the manufacturer. However there are hundreds of slow cooker books on the market and I'm sure a quick Google search would throw up many hundreds more recipes so there is nothing holding you back. Secondly, there is no timer on the cooker itself so you will need to use a separate timer when preparing your meals. This is not a problem for me as I use the timer on the oven but I can see that some people may prefer a cooker with a built in timer.
All in all I think this is a fantastic product at a great price, and now that I have it I would be lost without it as it saves me so much time and yet cooks delicious, healthy meals that I and all my family enjoy. I would thoroughly recommend this product to anyone looking to buy a slow cooker.
