Prestige Electric Carving Knife
by MEL0611
For some time now I have been considering getting an electric carving knife. I love entertaining and cooking for others but I do worry that when serving the food it can get cold and anything that will speed up the process is a great thing. The knife that my mum has been using for some time now is a Prestige one so I decided that I would ... look out for one. When cooking items like a joint of meat for people I tend to waste so much time trying to carve the dish that I am wary of it going cold.
It was a Prestige model that I ended up purchasing in the end and it was their electric carving knife. After looking around I got it from Amazon but there are many different places that supply these knifes, I saw it in the Argos book as well as seeing it on offer in places like Comet. When I made the purchase I got it for the price of £19.99 but I believe it is now retailing more around the £25.00 mark which in my opinion is still good value.
When my Amazon parcel arrived the knife was well packaged and in quite a bright looking cardboard box. As I opened the packaging I noted that there was a leaflet that was within the instruction booklet that said the brand offers 'quality and innovation for more than 50 years' and seeing as my Mum's has been going for some time I was quietly confident. The instruction booklet was well detailed and made the knife and what you had to do with it quite simple.
The knife comes with twin stainless steel blades and then the actual body to the knife. This is powered by a 160w motor and there is an electrical lead that needs to be plugged in for you to get starting. There is an on and off switch on the knife so that you are not in a situation when you plug it in and suddenly the knife and the blades become active.
The knife blades are really easy to insert and I find that they are also quite safe to handle, there is a smooth side and then there is the side that has the blade, once in they will click and you know that they are ready; the knife will not work unless they are put in correctly. Once you go to switch the knife on you will find that it is not that noisy, I had visions of it being quite loud but far from it. The first thing that I went to use the knife on was my joint of beef and the blades simply glided through it, I was really impressed with just how good it was and that it took all the stress of carving away.
The other food items that I have used this knife on have been bread and other meats; it cut through some chicken with complete ease. The knife makes easy work of the bread and for some reason it also seems to make less mess from when I use a normal knife.
When it is time to removes the blades to give them a clean, you press the release button; again I found this to be a safe process. There is also the fact that they come really clean from a quick soak in warm, soapy water.
In summary, I am happy to recommend this product and I think it is very good value for money, perhaps not so useful if you do not cook for big numbers but this is such a plus for cutting down on the serving times of food.
4 out of 5 from me
