Advantages: Fun, Easy, Well Built
Disadvantages: Pricey
I saw Aerolattes being demonstrated at the Town and Country festival last year, and since seeing them demonstrated in various shops throughout the year, I finally decided to buy one at this year's Town and Country festival. I bought the Aerolatte Shakes pack, which contains a yellow Aerolatte (not the standard chrome), a special plastic box (which makes much more sense than the stand - it can actually go in to a draw without worrying about it getting bent) and 2 plastic cups with cool spirally straws on them - one yellow with a blue straw, and the other blue with a yellow straw. It also came with a useful recipe sheet. The Aerolatte is turned on and off using a simple switch on the side. It runs off two AA batteries, but they need changing after only a few uses as it noticably gets worse and worse. Apparently, the average battery life is 150 - 200 uses, which roughly works out at 0.25p per use (based on 4 AA batteries at £1). So how does it perform? It really does do what it says on the box - you can get a full glass of milkshake from just a third of a glass of milk... although obviously it's a bit too frothy! I prefer to use half a glass of milk... that way it gives you a substantial drink! For coffee, you can either microwave a small jug of milk (for about 30 seconds on high), making sure it doesn't boil (if it boils the milk apparently loses it's properties to froth), and pour that froth on to the top of your coffee (ideal for instant coffee), or froth the milk in the bottom of a tall mug first (no more than a quarter of a mugful) and pour the coffee on first (ideal for filter coffee). Other great uses include scrambled eggs (they're really fluffy), and mixing salad dressings and egg whites (good for meringues). It's simple to use... just put it at the bottom of a cup, switch it on, and let the Aerolatte work it's magic! It's a good idea to circle it round slowly too...
>Cleaning is simple - just dip it in to some washing up water, turn it on for about 5 seconds, turn it off, take it out, and turn it back on for a few seconds to dry! It's been endorsed by Crusha and Lavazza, which surely must be a sign of a high quality product! I paid £20 for mine, with the rest of the set, and although it may seem like a lot of money, I feel it's definitely worth the money - it's well built, and comes with a 2 year guarantee! Although I haven't seen the shakes pack in any stores, I have seen the Aerolattes in chrome for £15ish on their own, and about £4ish for the stand, in stores such as Whittards and Lakeland.
