Advantages: Cheap, quick to make, yummy, etc, etc
Disadvantages: May not like bread?
I forgot how nice toasted sandwiches are until a friend made me one for lunch one day.... Cheese and ham it was. Crispy, crunchy bread with soft, gooey cheese inside, fighting it's way out past warm, flavoursome ham, ahhh, Heaven! (is it just me or did I just sound like an M&S advert?)
I kind of grew up on toasted sandwiches. When my mum was at work my dad would always make either toasted sandwiches or ham omelette, possibly oven chips if he was feeling adventurous!
So, when I walked in to argos and discovered that they sold them for £5.59 I just had to buy one.
It has exactly the same features as the £25 versions that argos also sell - they are simple gadgets so what more could they actually do, butter the bread for you?
The sandwich toaster makes up to two sandwiches. It has non stick plates and the outside is cool to the touch when in use so is extremely safe for use around children (not like the ones that were around when I was a kid - ouch!). It has non slip feet and can be stored in both a flat and upright position.
To make a toasted sandwich you will need two (or four) slices of bread, butter (marg, whatever) and something for a filling (cheese or jam work particularly well).
Butter the bread as you would for a normal sandwich, then when the green light comes on (around 1 min) place one slice of bread in the toaster butter side DOWN.
Add the filling then place the other silce of bread butter side UP. Close the machine and fasten with the clip. Your sandwich will be ready in 3-6 mins depending on how you like it.
Simple! The toaster is also very easy to clean using a damp cloth so you get a quick and easy meal with hardly any clearing up to do afterwards.
Overall, I would highly recommend this sandwich toaster as it is does what it's supposed to and is practically the same as all the others, the only difference being that it is not stainless silver or 'ergonomically designed' (whatever that is!).
For £5.59 you can't really go wrong and as it is an electrical item is comes with a years guarantee as well.
Summary: A great buy, and at £5.59 you can't go wrong!

- 08/04/09 I don't have a toastie, though we do have a George Foreman Grill; my daughter has made toasties in the grill. They are nice. Makes me hungry! |
