Advantages: Quick boil, Good safety features, Large water capacity
Disadvantages: Expensive, Limited colours
Hot and steamy, sexy and streamlined, smooth to the touch, and very pleasing to the eye. It’s a necessity in most homes, and it provides that well needed morning serving of eye opening stuff to start off the day right. No, not my hubby.... my kettle. The Braun WK300, also known as the AquaExpress is a kettle. Not just any kettle, but a rapid boil, cordless, jug kettle. Never thought I’d see the day when I’d enthuse happily about a kettle, but this one is pretty good. The Vital Statistics ----------------------- It stands approx 12 inches tall, and sits on a 360° swivel base with cord storage. The kettle itself is heavy duty plastic, grey in colour, and the base is rust resistant stainless steel. It has a maximum capacity of 1.6 litres and a water level gauge on either side of the handle so it’s suitable for right or left handed users. The lid is hinged, and opens by pressing a button at the top of the handle, but it has a reasonably sized/shaped spout so is easily filled without undoing the lid. The spout also has a removable scale filter thus eliminating the risk of any scale build up ending up in your drink (or the chance on any foreign bodies getting into your kettle). The on/off switch is located near the top of the handle, just below the lid release button. When your kettle is switched on to boil, a light is displayed underneath the water level gauge. The Maintenance --------------------- Before use for the first time, you should give your kettle a clean out. Simply add two cups of water and a cup of vinegar to the kettle and bring it to the boil once. Empty the kettle and fill to the maximum level with fresh water. Boil and repeat the process. Your kettle is then ready for use. Periodic repetitions of the above process should be carried out to ensure lime scale buildup is minimised and the kettle remains in good working order.
Safety Features -------------------- The kettle will automatically switch off if/when.... ~ The water has boiled ~ You forget to put water in (?) ~ The lid is opened ~ It’s removed from the base unit So, my verdict on the Braun WK300 AquaExpress. It’s great! Capable of boiling more than enough water for a very large pot of tea or several mugs of coffee, in a short time. The rapid boil system boasts taking just 35 seconds to boil 200ml of water, and although I clocked it at 37 seconds you won’t find much better than that. Mine was a gift, so I can’t give the price paid or the retailer from which it was purchased. But it is available to buy online at £35.99 from http://www.easibuy.com/shop/powerstore.cgi or for U.S. residents, at $59.99 from http://www.braun.com

- 28/06/01 Never knew reading about kettles could be so interesting!! We've got one of these, and I have to admit the shallow reason I bought it was because it looked good!! It really is a good kettle though, it boils really quickly, good op. Jo :@) |
