Every dog has its day (or so they say) but some seem to lead the lives of cats, coming back for their nine lives. This is the way with the humble sandwich toaster. Originally a craze of the Eighties, (along with such other dubious contenders as leg warmers, puffball skirts and day-glo tops) this product has seen somewhat of a revival. Italian sandwich bars in the cities, public houses and roadside cafeterias are all offering the delights of “toasties” as they are affectionately known. ***** So? For the uninitiated, what is a toastie? ***** ___________________________________________ Put quite simply, a toasted sandwich is simply ... Read the complete review

It's gadget time again, so here we go with another of my favourite toys, the good old sandwich toaster. This machine makes two sandwiches at a time, which is quite enough for a family of four really as it's very quick to heat up and make the toasties, but primarily I chose this one because of the easy clean lift out cooking plates. When they are cool enough to handle, you can just unclip them and wash them, by hand or in the dishwasher. So it is nice and easy to keep it clean and looking nice. It's black and chrome so it'll go with any colour scheme, if you want it out on show and on the top it has a green and red indicator light. ... Read the complete review

The Breville Classique is a sandwich maker which makes 2 rounds of hot toasties. The sandwich toaster is chrome and cost me £30 from choice catalogue. I have also seen it in argos as well. You can get it other colours too which are white, blue and green. You can get it in either 2 slices or 4 slices. To use it plug it in at the mains and a red light will appear on the toaster. Prepare your sandwich, put one slice of bread buttured side down on the toaster. Then add your ingredients and then put the other slice of bread, buttured side up on top. Close the lid and leave to cook for about 3 to 4 minutes. The green light will go off once the toastie is ... Read the complete review

My mum was given a Breville Classique sandwich toaster for her birthday recenly. she had already got a good one and mine was just about ready for the bin so she gave it to me. First appearances says "smart". Shiney chrome lid with nice curved handle. Open it up and basically well, it's a sandwich toaster... Not much more you can say really. It's large enough to make 8 triangles of sandwiches by cutting and sealing the edges, allegedly... Well, I tried it out and it was okay... Not all the edges were sealed though and the contents spilled out a bit. Perhaps it was the shape and thickness of bread I was using, I don't know. ... Read the complete review

I needed a new toaster as my old one just popped up whenever it fancied. It didn't matter if the bread was still white or burnt black, it just seemed to pop up at random. I was attracted to the Breville Classic Chrome Toaster because of it nice curvy shape. There aren't any sharp angles on it and the whole design just appealed to me right away. There is a variable browning control on this toaster which iselectronically controlled, variable width bread slots and you can just press a button to stop it at any time. You just slide out the tray at the bottom to clean out the crumbs and it also has built in cord storage. It comes in ... Read the complete review
