Every dog has its day (or so they say) but some seem to lead the lives of cats, coming back for their nine lives. This is the way with the humble sandwich toaster. Originally a craze of the Eighties, (along with such other dubious contenders as leg warmers, puffball skirts and day-glo tops) this product has seen somewhat of a revival. Italian sandwich bars in the cities, public houses and roadside cafeterias are all offering the delights of “toasties” as they are affectionately known. ***** So? Prepare your sandwich, put one slice of bread buttured side down on the toaster. Then add your ingredients and then put the other slice of bread, buttured side up on top. Close the lid and leave to cook for about 3 to 4 minutes. The green light will go off once the toastie is ...
