Advantages: easy to use and keep clean

Disadvantages: none

It's gadget time again, so here we go with another of my favourite toys, the good old sandwich toaster.

This machine makes two sandwiches at a time, which is quite enough for a family of four really as it's very quick to heat up and make the toasties, but primarily I chose this one because of the easy clean lift out cooking plates. When they are cool enough to handle, you can just unclip them and wash them, by hand or in the dishwasher. So it is nice and easy to keep it clean and looking nice.

It's black and chrome so it'll go with any colour scheme, if you want it out on show and on the top it has a green and red indicator light.

When you switch it on both lights come on and it takes about 4 minutes to heat up so you can use this time to make your sandwiches. When it's ready to use the green light goes out, although it does come on now and again during the cooking process. The instruction leaflet does mention this, but doesn't say why, ho hum.

So when you've got your sandwiches ready to cook (it says with the buttered sides out) open the toastie maker and lay them on the plates. Close and lock the lid. Wait around 5 minutes, depending on how well done you like them, (it's just down to personal preference as always) you can open up the toastie maker any time you like to check on well your sandwich is doing.

When done to your liking, open it up again and just lift them out with a plastic spatula and eat! If you haven't piled in too much filling it should have cut each toastie into two triangles and sealed them perfectly. Don't use anything metal to lift them off the cooking plates or you'll scratch the non-stick plates and then they won't be non-stick will they? Oh and be careful if you have used a fruit filling or something with tomato or jam as it can get very hot and burn your mouth.

You get a six page instruction book with this showing you how to use and cl
ean your machine, it also has a couple of recipe suggestions in it to start you off in case you've never used one before. There's also a few hints and tips for great results, for instance they suggest that you can make pies and pasties if you use filo or puff pastry instead of bread, I've not tried that yet, but I will get around to it I'm sure.

I use this machine quite a lot, it's quick and easy way to make a snack, and just lately I've even started making my beloved eggy bread sandwiches in it as it's a lot quicker and easier to do. Just butter the cooking plates and then coat one side of each slice of bread with your egg mixture, place them with the eggy sides out and the plain side is where you put your filling. Then just close the toastie maker and leave for a couple of minutes. Mmmm it's lovely and a lot less messy too. Otherwise the big favourites in queenofsheba's palace are, good old ham and cheese or leftover Bolognese.

It was a little pricey at £29.15, but as I get a lot of use out of it, I feel that it's worth every penny. We bought this from the Curry's website, who had a free delivery offer on at the time; I think it was little bit cheaper a Argos but then there were post and packing charges to be added on, which is why we went for Curry's. So as usual people, do shop around and get the best price.

It's suppertime now so I've got to go make some, enjoy!

I'd never have thought about a leftover Bolognese sandwich - that's a brilliant idea. Good to see you writing again, Louise! Sue :)
