Advantages: Speedy boil despite large capacity

Disadvantages: Too many cups of tea!

The Breville Finesse

I bought this kettle about two months ago. I was in dire need of a new one being an absolute tea addict, and using one of two dodgy kettles: one not only poured water in your mug but also all over the unit, the other made a sort of fizzing noise from the lead socket whenever it was switched on!

A few things attracted me to this kettle. Firstly its size: it has a large 1.7 litre capacity; I can make up several baby bottles and still have enough for lots of cups of tea! Another thing I liked was its appearance: it is very clean looking, and streamlined. It's white with pale green features, it has a large window in pale green plastic with little teacups up the side to show how much water is in there and you can watch it boil if you like! The other thing that made me want this particular model was the claim on the box that it is a 'fast boil' kettle - it has a fast boil 3000W element! I was stood there in Comet thinking 'a quicker cuppa, wow'! I have timed it now, from cold kettle, full to max. with cold water - it took 3 minutes and thirty six seconds! But I am unable to say if this is actually faster cos I never timed any of my other kettles!! It seems to be faster, but that could just be me believing I've had great value for money for once! (It cost about £25, by the way). Also, when you replace the kettle after pouring, the metal base stays hot enough to heat the water up again.
It has a concealed element for easy cleaning - when you look inside the kettle the base is a metal plate so you don't get a furry element, but the plate does mark. I used a multi-purpose descaler on it recently - came up a treat!
The 360-degree base for left or right hand use is something I definitely wanted in a new kettle. Where we have ours in the kitchen it's on the left, and being right-handed this made picking up and pouring awkward with the old kettles (if you picked it up with the right hand th
e lead didn't stretch far enough, if you picked it up with the left you poured it everywhere due to lack of ambidextrosity?)! It has an easily removable, washable anti-scale filter, which is nice, and a safety locking lid - it has a button you squeeze to open it and it's hinged so it doesn't come off completely, which a lot of kettle lids seem to do. Plus, a neon power-on indicator, and, thankfully, auto switch off!

I'm off for a quick cuppa, anyone want one?

Update 10/07/01
I now believe that it IS a fast boil kettle; I stood there waiting for a friend to make me a cuppa recently and it felt like days waiting for her full kettle to boil!!

Oops, thought this was a sandwich toaster op! Been looking for a kettle too though, and this looks pretty good. Particularly swivel and being able to watch it boil! (Well it kills time!) :) Chinny
