Advantages: Heats up quickly, easy to clean, cool handles, can use large bread

Disadvantages: None!

Our old toasted sandwich maker was 15+ years old and had made many a toasted sarny, so it was decided a new one was needed. I wanted one that was going to last a long time and make a lot of toasties (just like our old one!).

While in Currys I spotted the Breville TR52 Super Clean Sandwich Toaster. Most importantly it will do 2 rounds at the same time and it will cut & seal them into triangle halves (although I've noticed it doesn't quite cut them all the way through, but it's easy enough to pull them apart).

The plates are removable and non-stick, making the machine very easy to clean (they are also dishwasher safe, but we don't have a dishwasher... apart from me... so I'm not too bothered about that). The hinges have a "clean hinge" design so you won't have crumbs etc getting into the hinges making a mess. Another thing that drew me to this toasted sandwich maker in particular is that it will take the largest of bread sizes, although the toasties are done best if the bread is square rather than round.

The toasted sandwich maker also has cool touch handles that won't heat up when it's on and a ready light that lights up when the toasted sandwich maker is at its optimum temperature.

Another thing that hooked me into buying it was that it's silver and stainless steel. I imagine it would last longer than one made of plastic, since our last sandwich toaster was metal.

Inside the box I found a little booklet containing Breville's Top Ten Toastie Tips (such as which cheese is best to use in your toastie, trying different breads, healthy options etc), Toastie fillings (such as the Breakfast Grill Up, Ricotta and Pear Drizzle, Cheesy Pickled Beans, Mars bar & Banana, and more), and how to maintain the machine.

We had toasties for tea tonight (corned beef and pickle, for me if you're asking!) and the Breville toasted them to perfection! Instead of having me usual toasties though, I might just try a few out of their little book as they sound delicious.

I found my Breville TR52 Super Clean Sandwich Toaster in Currys for around £25 and I think it's well worth the money, especially if it lasts anywhere near as long as our last one!

All in all, I think the Breville TR52 does a good job and is easy to clean up afterwards (which is always a good thing!). I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a sandwich toaster.

Summary: A great toasted sandwich maker with a littlebook of ideas.

I remember a friend bringing their sandwich toaster out of a cupboard once, it hadn't been cleaned since it's last use a couple of years earlier. Super clean sounds handy.
