Advantages: Keeps goodness in veg, Less dishes when cooking, Easy to store and cheap

Disadvantages: Hand washing

In my ongoing quest for the healthier eating options, I have recently purchased a steamer which was an absolute bargain of 11.99 from Argos.

I chose the Cookworks Steamer as I'm not one for spending loads on kitchen appliances because a) I don't have the money and b) I'd much rather spend my money on me personally instead of my home. Anyway, the steamer is a great buy and I'd say does just as well as the more pricey numbers available.

The steamer comes in white with two bowls which sit on top of one another when cooking and inside each other when not - handy for storage! The steamer has an orange light to let you know the machine is on and there is a timer which times from up to 60 minutes. There is also a boil dry cut off mechanism for such forgetful times as not putting enough water in or putting the timer on too long. There is also an automatic switch off mechanism which is great for folk like me who forget to turn things off all the time!

The steamer is great for cooking vegetables, rice, fish and some meats believe it or not. There is an instruction booklet which comes with the steamer which lets you know all the different things you can use it for including cooking times etc.

I would recommend using a steamer as it stops vegetables losing their vitamins and such which often happens when boiling and also for fish and rice as the rice comes out nice and fluffy and the fish is lovely and tender. I cannot comment on meat as I don't eat it so would not cook it.

The only thing I'd say is poor about a steamer is cleaning. It is sometimes difficult to get bits of food out of the grooves on the base of the bowls so I'd recommend using a dishwasher for washing which fortunately, this steamer is suitable for!

Good first review. I have a cookworks hand blender (for blending while holding in a hand, not for blending hands of course) and it was cheap and has lasted a couple of years so far with no problems.

I would rate higher if there was more detail but you managed to get quite a lot across in a concise review! Welcome to the little dooyoo experience...
