Advantages: easy to clean, controllable

Disadvantages: expensive to buy

This house came with a slot in fan oven with halogen hob. I'd been cooking with gas for many years, so the first meal I cooked, a casserole, was burned to a crisp in the unexpectedly high speed oven.
This, however, was a small price to pay for the joy of learning to cook on a halogen hob. Halogen has all the advantages of gas - controllable, instant heat - and none of the disadvantages. Any spills can be wiped away, and it is impossible to turn the heat up too high thus burning the pan or handle (which I did several times on a gas hob).
My set of four pans, purchased within days of moving in, still look as new as the day I took them out of the box - three years ago.

Sounds interesting. I hope that by the time I have to change mine, the halogen will be available in my neck of the woods.
