The Halogen oven is one of our favourite and mostly used appliance in our kitchen.
Is it good for baking, cooking, grilling, warming etc.
I have used it for fishfingers, veggie burgers, samosas as well as to grill fish, roast chicken and lamp etc.
Its uses are endless and the main reason I use it is because of health.
The cooking done with the halogen oven is much healthier. For example, I do oven chips in them. When oven chips are done the conventional way, you still have the oil that comes with those chips inside. However when doing using the halogen oven, it drains even more of the oil out. The result-- healthier chips.
I would strongly recommend anyone who is interested in healthy eating to use one of these. It is one of the best kitchen investments I have ever made and enjoy my food even more now!
fabulous while it lasted. Oven blew the bulb after one year and two months. Thane were rude and unhelpful and suggested I throw it away as it was no good now.For £104 one year ago, too much to lose in just over a year so am taking the matter to Court.
I bought the Flavorwave Halogen oven from the shopping channel after watching it for about a year and its the best thing since sliced bread, I rarely use my cooker now which saves on the electricity but more importantly on the washing up.
You can cook from frozen
You can bake
You can cook complete meals.... although I cant fit complete meals in for my family of big eaters.
A whole chicken is cooked lovely and moist on the inside and beautiful on the outside.
For microwave meals there is no longer the bland top but a nice oven cooked effect.
You can cook a massive stew / chilli / curry and use the bowl to serve, great for party's.
The ultimate though is the cleaning, it has a cleaning function where you put some water and a little washing up liquid then put it on the cleaning cycle but I find it so much easier just to pop it in the sink give it a wash, nothing sticks to it as its glass, so it is literally a wipe round then job done. As it is glass none of the smells from the last cooked meal are left behind, brilliant.
I'm not usually one for being sucked into adverts on shopping channels, especially ones endorsed by "celebrities" but when the infomercial for the Flavourwave Halogen Oven came on the Thane Direct channel, I must admit I sat up a bit in my seat. This was in part to due to the fact that my childhood hero Mr T was the celebrity endorsing it.
The Flavorwave Halogen Oven is an oven that uses 3 different ways to cook the food - Halogen Heat, Infrared Waves and Convection - which means the food cooks 3 times faster than in a normal oven.
The oven claims it can cook food from frozen and it will also bake, broil, roast, toast, sear, brown, barbecue, steam, and reheat.
We decided to get the platinum version (£94.95 plus p&p) as the lid was hinged and it had digital settings and display and also upgraded our order to include the Flavorwave Turbo Full Bumper Pack for an additional £30 which included the Extender Ring Kit which adds 7cm of height to the cooking area (so good for doing larger joints of meat), Grilling Plate, Breakfast Rack (for "boiling" eggs, making toast) the Steam Basket and the Pizza/Browning Pan. The only things we have used from the bumper pack are the extender ring kit which was fabulous when cooking a large turky for the family, and the breakfast rack which was pretty useless!!! It claims to "boil" eggs but it took about half an hour so we;ve not bothered again!
We now use the halogen oven to cook all joints of meat, sausages, burgers, steaks, in fact any meat we cook gets cooked in the Flavorwave, not only because it's so quick and easy and the meat keeps it's juices and is always cooked to perfection, but also because it's nice to see the food cooking... I find this means I can keep an eye on it more and see when it's ready.
Also when cooking a roast you can put the potatoes and parsnips and yorkshire puddings in there too to cook them all at the same time!
I've not yet used the oven to bake cakes but you do get a recipe book with the oven that contains lots of recipies from casseroles to cakes - but I've not tried any of the recipes so can't comment.
Cleaning the Flavorwave Platinum Halogen Oven is an absolute breeze! You just squirt some liguid detergant into the bottom, fill it up to the level indicated with cold water, and set it to it's "Wash" function and the oven washes itself! It's amazing watching it!
One disadvantage is that the cooking bowl is very heavy, so those with difficulties with grip or handling heavy items may find this too heavy for them to cope with.
All in all it's a very useful item, it certainly cooks meat quicker than an ordinary oven and seals in more juices for a more flavoursome meal.
