Advantages: Great tasting food

Disadvantages: Not a single one

Trying to be as healthy as possible isn't always that easy, food that is good for you is more times not not completely tasteless unless it's cooked by someone with great culinary skills. It's so tempting to take the easy route and just pop something riddled with salt and sugar and God knows what else in to the microwave or even worse pick up the phone and have a heart attack delivered right to your door in the form of a high calorie take away.

My family and I love a good summer barbecue but neither Scotland nor Ireland tend to be blessed with sun filled days even in the heart of summer. So to mimic that joyful summers day feeling we ask people over and heat up the George Foreman grill. This particular model even has the look of one of those expensive hinged barbecues, with it's long, black, extendable front handle. It takes very little time to heat up and with every one having a drink the sizzle of the meat hitting the ridges of the hotplates fills the room with the mouthwatering aroma of the succulent tender meat. The fact that this grill is so large means I can have two large steaks and two large chicken fillets cooking at the same time. Or have some skewered meat and vegetable kebabs cooking alongside some salmon.

The best thing about this grill isn't it's size but the fact that the lid is not only hinged but is on a "floating hinge" this means larger pieces of meat can be cooked on this grill as the hinged top adjusts to the size of the portion, on other copy cat grills they don't have this patented floating hinge and the portion size is then reliant on the size of the closed grill, too big and it won't close and cook properly. No such problems with the George Foreman Five Portion Family Grill.

Another great feature of this grill is the fact that it's slanted. That doesn't sound too good I know, but it's great. The fact that it has this slight incline means all the excess fat and oil runs down between the ridges of the hotplate and in to the drip tray provided. These are juices that your meat would be sitting in if cooked on a pan or even in the oven. Don't worry, the meat doesn't end up dry because of these juices draining away, these are excess fat and meat juices that are not needed to add flavour or succulency to your meat all the wonderful flavorful juices are sealed into the meat the moment you place them on to the hot, hot grill. It's then sealed on both sides the moment you close the lid. This results in tender, juicy, healthy food like you've never tasted before. These ridges also leave those extremely appetising scorch marks on your steak and meats while red and green peppers come out wonderfully roasted with those yummy charcoal strips. Mmmmmmm

When it comes to cleaning it's very easy indeed, the hotplates are None stick and any caramelised juices wipe away with a wet cloth while the drip tray can be washed in hot soapy water. The grill uses 1370 - 1630 watts of power but cooks the food super fast.

Having everyone gathered around while the food is cooking gives this a real sense of occasion.
The sizzle of the meat, the mouthwatering anticipation of what's to come.
The George Foreman Five Portion Family Grill is a real party must have.
