Advantages: Healthier Eating
Disadvantages: None
My boyfriend bought me a George Foreman grill to help me eat more healthily. Being a student I tended to opt for quick, easy meals which usually meant high fat content and more calories. My George Foreman has made life so much easier!
SO WHO IS GEORGE FOREMAN?
George Foreman is a world champion boxer. In 1968 he won an olympic gold medal, in the 1970's he became World Champion, he retired in 1977 but came back ten years later and regained the heavy weight title in the 1990's.
Boxers are known for being fit and healthy and nowadays George is known for putting his name onto this 'lean, mean girlling machine'.
THE RANGE OF GRILLS
No matter what size grill you want I am sure there is something to suit you. These grills come in baby, junior, large, family size, grill and griddle combi's, double champion grills, barbeques......you name it and it's probably available!
The grill I have is a junior one, but I am sure they all do pretty much the same thing, the only difference will be size and price
THE JUNIOR GRILL
This is a good size for me as I only ever cook for 1 or 2 people. You can fit about 4 chicken breasts on the grill at one time, or 2 steaks. If you have a big family I would suggest a larger grill.
HEALTH BENEFITS
The grill plates are non-stick which means you never have to use extra oil/grease when cooking. This is the first health benefit. Secondly, the grill is at a slight angle so any fat coming out of the food will run down into the drip tray that you must place at the foot of the grill. (This is included when you buy the grill) It is a good idea to gently prick the meat with a fork as this allows extra fat to come out and helps you be a little bit healthier.
COOKING
The grill plates are on the base where you put the food, and also on the top so cooking is evenly spread. There is no need to turn the meat when cooking. It takes about 10 minutes for chicken breasts to cook, and they come out tasting lovely. The grill also gives the 'barbequed' look with the lines down the meat. It really is a quick and easy way to cook. You can marinade your meat or put seasoning on before cooking and this adds to the flavour, just means a little more mess to wipe off, but this doesn't take long at all.
You can see the fat in the drip tray as soon as the meat starts to cook. I have noticed that with food such as burgers and sausages the fat will turn thick and white, whereas when cooking chicken or steak the fat is much 'cleaner'. This really makes you pay attention to what you eating in future.
CLEANING
You are provided with 2 plastic 'scrapers'. When you have taken the meat off you simply glide the scrapers down the gril and this takes any mess off immediately. I also run a sponge or kitchen roll over to finish off the cleaning, it doesnt take very long. A handy hint is if you don't manage to get it all off and you realise this next time you go to use it, gently heat the grill before wiping, it makes it easier to clean.
EXTRA FEATURES
There is a place on the top of the grill where you can eat bread/buns etc but I have never used this. The space really isn't very big, but I am sure it works ok.
PRICE
My junior grill cost about £35 i think but that was a little while ago now. I've had a look around on the net and you can get one on ebay for around £15, but other sites have them for around £25. This really is good value for money.
OVERALL
This had made cooking a lot easier and quicker, and the health benefits are well worth getting one. I recommend this to anyone who doesn't like spending ages cooking but wants to eat healthy meals.
Summary: The lean mean grilling machine that makes you lean!
