Advantages: Cooks both sides at once .
Disadvantages: Drip tray's are a bit shallow .
The George Junior grill that I have is in a silver colour with a purple see through lid, but they also sell them with a green see through lid and a clear see through lid,
and comes complete with 2 drip tray's and 2 spatulas.
I bought mine about 4 years ago and they are still selling them in the shops now and also in larger sizes.
At the time I bought mine they were advertising them all over the place, and so popular were they that most of my friends and family now own one of these lean mean fat reducing grilling machines!
The George Junior is the smaller of these grilling machines and opens up to reveal the top and bottom grill plates, and to give you an idea of the cooking area ........4 large burgers will fit neatly onto the bottom grill plate,
Above the grill plates there is a separate compartment under the coloured lid which is the bun or muffin warmer,
which does just that! warm's the buns or muffin's ready for the burgers ect....
Cooking with the grill is really easy , first place one of the drip trays under the grill to catch the draining fat.
and before placing the food ect on the bottom grill plate you must first give both plates a light coating of cooking oil which I do using a pastry brush, the grill is then left closed until the indicator light goes out meaning it is now hot enough to use,
Put your food on the bottom plate and holding the handle lower the top plate onto your food and cooking will start straight away,
the average cooking time is around 6 mins for burgers, chicken, sausages and vegetables ect..........
some foods can also be cooked from frozen but these will take a little longer.
I find that cooking with one of these types of grills is a lot healthier as little cooking oil is needed to cook the food and most of the remaining fat drains away into the drip tray ,
but apart from being healthier, having top and bottom grill plates it cooks both sides at once cutting the cooking time.
I find the food cooks just as well and faster than it does in a frying pan or under the conventional grill, and tastes just as good too if not better as there is definately less fat left in the food.
What I did find was that if I overcooked, the food tended to go a bit rubbery, but with having the grill and cooking with it for so long now, I've got the timing just right and this does'nt happen anymore.
I have found the drip trays very shallow and can fill really quickly, so always have your other drip tray nearby ready to take over!
The spatulas are quite flexible and like the drip trays are made of plastic and shaped perfectly to fit the grooves in the grill, and as the grill plates are non stick teflon coated you must never use metal utensils as this will damage the grill plates.
Unfortunately I lost one of my spatulas ( I think it went in the bin by mistake) and recently my new puppy got hold of my one and only remaining spatula and chewed it up beyond recognition!
I tried everywere to find the same type spatula but couldnt
so had to borrow one from a friend until I can buy the same type.
As for cleaning I let the grill plates cool down but leave them just a little warm, as I find leaving them warm to the touch makes them easier to clean, I then give them a wipe over with a damp sponge, I found through practice that using a sponge makes cleaning easier as it gets into the grooves better than a cloth, and then I dry them off with a clean cloth or kitchen towel.
The outside I wipe down with a warm damp cloth too.
I've owned this grill for going on 4 years and have used it a lot even lending it out at times and never had a problem, it's easy to use and clean and it's really quite light to carry and small enough to store away in the kitchen cupboard,
and would recommend it as a good buy.
The cord is pretty short at 100cm and unfortunately there is no cord or plug storage
The grill came with an easy to understand manual giving cooking, timing and cleaning instructions.
When I bought this grill it cost around £29.99
The price has'nt changed much as Amazon are selling the clear lid one for £34.99.
Summary: A lot healthier than frying and easy to use and clean.
