Advantages: Great toasted sandwiches

Disadvantages: Unsafe

Before I start complaining, I should add that I like this thing, it does actually work reasonably well and does the job it is meant to - It also makes nice toasted sandwiches and is a whole lot cheaper than those shiny pannini grills.

However...

I bought this to make toasties, and I am used to toasted sandwich makers - I popped my toastie in and, not really thinking about it, closed the lid as I would with a toasted sandwich maker. One hiss, and peeling my singed fingers off the bottom lip of the grill later, I realised that perhaps this wasn't the most sensible thing I had ever done.

Just underneath the upper handle on this is the very very hot lip where the fat drips out - Now don't get me wrong, I am happy to laugh at Americans who complain to McDonalds that their coffee cups don't say "This may be hot" but in this case, the design simply doesn't seem to be safe... Who in their right mind would design something with a heated boiling fat dripping plate less than a centimeter away from a handle, on a grill where you are very likely to want to "squeeze" the contents to heat them better or even to get more fat out.

If you not careless like me, it's great - But there is no way I would advise somebody with anything even approaching an absent mind, or kids to go near one of these things... Sorry George, it makes lovely sandwiches but my fingers still have a nasty smelling burned ridge in them.
