Advantages: Healthy eating

Disadvantages: cleaning.

Over the years I have tried many diets, eating fads and cooking methods in hope of one day having that perfect body. One day I saw in a shop the ?Baby George foreman grill? on a special offer for £19.99, most places stocked them at around £29.00 at the time so this was a bargain not to be missed.

The grill its self was silver in colour with a clear plastic lid on top of the main grill lid, this gives a two tier affect, the plastic lids come in a verity of colours, green, blue, red, purple and silver as well as the clear one so they will go well in most kitchen colour schemes. The idea of the top plastic lid is to place you bread, burger buns, pitta breads. croissants etc to warm while you are cooking, thus making good use of the heat.

The top and bottom grill plates are joined together with a floating hinge so that it can take many different thickness of food and still give a good even surface which always has contact with the food so the food cooks evenly. As the food is cooked on both sides at the same time it cooks very quickly leaving it looking nice and seared.

The grill plates are non-stick coated and as I found do release the food quite well they also slope downwards and have no rim at the bottom so as not to prevent the fat from the cooking leaving the grill and the food. With the grill you are supplied with a long thin plastic dish which fits nicely under the lowest edge of the grill to catch all the fat during the cooking process which can then be disposed of.

You can cook all manner of things on the grill from vegetables to meat and fish etc, one of my favourite quickies is to marinate a chicken breast in Worchester sauce for a short time then just pop it in the grill with a few mushrooms and veggies.

One little thing I have found is if you feel you would like to have a little more fried taste to thing, you can buy a spray oil which only h
as one calories per spray so I do some times just give 1 or 2 sprays to things like fish, mushrooms and veggies etc to help them cook and taste a little better with out piling extra calories on.

Using the grill couldn?t be easier, simply plug the grill in and switch it on so it can be warming while you prepare your food. It only has the one pre set temperature so you can?t really go far wrong there. The little indicator light will go out when the temperature is right for cooking, you then add your food which should really be as close to the same thickness as each other as you can get or the plates will not touch it all and some things wont cook properly.

There is no timer or other indicator to tell you when your food is cooked so until you get used to cooking with the grill and learn to judge how long certain thing take to cook, you will need to keep lifting the lid to check on the food. This will do the food no harm at all, as long as you replace the lid quickly if you need to continue to cook the food.

All the food I have cooked on the grill has always been cooked well and not at all dry, the appearance of the food has also always been pleasing. One of the best things about cooking this way is, you tend to get the full true flavour of the food rather than the flavour of the cooking oil. As well as grilling food it makes excellent toasted sandwiches.

Cleaning the grill is not to much of a problem but one thing I would have liked is to have the grill plates removable so they could be washed more easily but as it is they supply you with a scraper with little grooves in it so you can scrape any food deposits off before wiping with a warm, damp, soapy cloth. You can?t use anything abrasive on the grill because it will damage the none-stick surface.

The out side just needs a good wipe with a damp cloth and the little dish that catches the fat can easily be washed in
the sink or dishwasher as can the scraper.

With the grill you also get a little recipe booklet with George Foreman?s favourite recipes, there is also a web site where you can get many more and find out a little about George Foreman him self. www.georgeforeman.com.

All in all I would recommend this grill to anyone as a really good and healthy way of cooking your food. Argos now sell them at a special price of £15.33 at the moment. I find the grill does encourage me to eat a little more healthy even if it still hasn?t helped me to that prefect body but I think I would have to properly give up chocolate and ice-cream to achieve that (no chance) still never mind.

Thanks for reading.

Kim.

Great review. Have to disagree on the cleaning part though, I think it is a doddle to clean and love mine.
