Advantages: cheap and yummy
Disadvantages: buttering the outside of the bread takes a while to get used to!
Sandwich toasters, what a great invention. It's one of those kitchen gadgets for a specific task, that unlike bread makers, rice cookers and ice cream makers - I actually think is worth the space in the kitchen. Quick and easy to use, they're great if you're in a hurry, but want something warm. Experimenting with fillings can be fun. A baked bean toastie is an interesting alternative to beans on toast, or how about using those beans with mini sausages in for a more substantial snack. My favourite is corned beef, potato and peas :) I've also tried turkey and apricot jam, in a kind of 'sweet and sour' concoction - i wouldn't really recommend it! Sweet toasties make an unusual pudding. Jam is my favourite but be careful the filling gets very very hot, and if you're greedy like me and can't wait for it to cool down you're likely to burn your mouth. If you're very brave try a mint aero toastie, or a white chocolate button toastie - I did, but they're so sickly it's difficult to eat a whole one. It's also a very inexpensive way to eat. A few slices of bread, and anything you've got left over for the filling. I would definatly recommend a sandwich toaster to anyone. Especially people with busy lifestyles who don't always have time for a proper meal. I have tried various brands of toaster, and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference between them, and they're generally fairly cheap - so if you haven't got one - then get one!
