This was a wedding present. We are rather prone to buying large useless kitchen gadgets (we have a cupboard full - popcorn makers, breadmakers, you name it) and I rather suspected this would join them. However, it is rather easy to use and handy. There are two large cups which fit into the top of the blender so you don't have to pour the smoothie from blender into anything else, and it comes with lids in case you want to stick it in the fridge and drink it for breakfast. There is a recipe book, and the cups have markers to tell you how much liquid and how much fruit/other stuff you can put in. It's nice and easy to use - even with my usual determination to avoid reading instructions I mastered it within ten minutes. If you're feeling healthy go for a smoothie. If not, get out the sweets, milk and ice-cream for awesome ice-cream milkshakes. That said, it is a bit of a novelty item. I started with a determined intention to buy all the discounted fruit in the supermarket and make smoothies for a fraction of the price. There's no reason that shouldn't work - it takes about five minutes to put everything together for a smoothie - and yet I haven't taken it out in the last three months. With the best of intentions, it's still really hard to get to actually using these things.
After reading about the wonders of juicing, I thought I would give this nifty machine a try. My favourite smoothie is currently Kale, Avocado, Almond Butter, Almond Milk for lubrication (or yoghurt, or cold green tea), powdered Flaxseed, chopped up Apple and grapes. It makes a pretty delicious green smoothie! It's totally flawless with most of the ingredients, but can occasionally find itself in a little trouble with the apple (can take a bit of shaking). Perhaps the blades can do with a little sharpening, as I wouldn't chance anything crunchier, such as a carrot unless pre-grated. It is perfectly fine at crushing ice. The portability of this device is excellent - you are supplied with two plastic 0.5 ml containers for which you use to blend, but also to take with you - no mucky transfers! This simply works by having the blades using the same screw-on system as the lids. The lids feel perfectly safe and I do not fear spillages in my bag whatsoever; the lid screws on perfectly tight, and the drinking hole is protected by a solid clip mechanism. Both containers have a handle which is handy if you're planning to jog, or walk to work with a liquid breakfast. Be warned that my containers have since cracked in the dishwasher (both are still usable), so I would not consider these dishwasher safe. Now, the machine itself has two speeds. Both are IMMENSELY noisy so I suggest keeping pets and young babies out of the room whilst using. Both are certainly effective at blitzing common smoothie materials, but as I said earlier, it can struggle with harder ingredients without either being chopped up small or a good old shake. The plug is very short, you must keep the machine at least 2 feet away from a plug socket or it simply wont reach. This can be a pain if you had a specific spot in mind, but it's certainly small enough to store in a cupboard without a container installed. All in all, am satisfied especially considering the price is towards the low end. Would certainly recommend!
I had this Kenwood SB056 Smoothie 2Go Maker as a Christmas present a few years ago and had never had anything like this before. I must admit when I first opened it I thought it was yet another useless present and that it would probably stay in the box on top of the kitchen worktops as I don't like smoothies as I am not keen on the consistency of them. It did stay on top of the cupboard for around six months and then one day I was making soup and my hand blender suddenly stopped working. I needed to blitz some broccoli and carrots and I thought my only alternative was to use a potato masher. However I remembered that when I did have a quick read the instruction manual of the smoothie maker when I first had it, it did mention that you could use it for making soups. I got it out of the box and washed all the parts in warm soapy water so I knew they were clean and ready to use. There are two plastic 0.5 litre travel jugs, two lids, a blade and the base. The jugs are clearly marked with measurements so they are easy to use. I must admit I do measure everything when I am in the kitchen as I am not very good at estimating ingredients and have had quite a few disasters as proof of this. It is very easy to put together which I was pleased as if there were too many fiddly bits and pieces I would have given up and not used it. To use it I just put the vegetables in the jug with some water or stock, screw the lid with the blades on top, and then screw this jug onto the base. I will just roughly chop the vegetables into smaller pieces especially if I am using carrots or Swedes or other harder vegetables, but if I am using broccoli or other softer vegetable don't tend to cut them up very much. You twist the jug round until you hear a click and you know then that it is ready to use. It will not switch on if it isn't in the correct position so you won't get any accidents with food splattering around the kitchen. The blade is made of stainless steel and cuts through things very easily. Apparently you can also use this for crushing ice but I have never used it for that. It has two speeds and also a pulse. I will usually use the higher speed and will keep it on for about twenty seconds and then have a look to see how things have blended. I will continue this until I am happy that all my ingredients have blended thoroughly. Although it is quite a small blender it does seem to work really quickly. I don't think I have used the pulse button as I have not needed to. The jugs are travel mugs and the lids do fit quite firmly on the top, however I have never used them for this, but they are supposed to be spill proof which is good if you are taking them out and about. I usually make quite a large batch of soup at one time and when it is finished I will pour it into containers which I keep in the fridge and also the freezer if I am not going to be using it straight away. I would say that as the jugs are not very big I will probably fill them up two or three times to make a large batch of soup but as it doesn't take very long to blend the whole process doesn't take much time at all. It is easy to clean and I will usually just wash it in the sink straight away as I find that it only takes a few minutes if I do this. You can put it in the dishwasher but I prefer to wash it and put it away straight after using it to keep my kitchen tidy. Like most blenders and mixers it does make a noise when I am using it, but it isn't excessive and for the short time I have it on it isn't too bad. I would say that it looks quite smart and neat in appearance. The plastic parts are shiny black and are easy to keep clean. It doesn't take up too much room on your worktop and it fits easily back into the box after use as there aren't too many different parts to it. As I say I don't personally like smoothies which is what this machine is predominantly made for, but I can definitely say that it does a fantastic job of making soup in a very quick time, and blends all the ingredients well to make a smooth tasty meal. As it completely blends all the ingredients my soups have always come out lovely and smooth, and as I often use left over vegetables and even chicken it costs a fraction of the price of shop bought soup. As this was a gift I didn't buy it myself but it is widely available in stores or online and ranges from £29.99 to £42.99.
This is a review for the Kenwood Smoothie 2Go SB055 300W. This was a gift bought a few months ago for me. I'm not sure where it was bought from or for how much but obviously for the purpose of the review I see the prices ranges anywhere from £19..99-£69.99 (at play.com!). Thus seems a good idea to shop around on this one - although average prices seem to be around the £20/£25 mark which in my opinion is reasonable for such a product. Through my internet price hunt I also saw that the product is available in lots of online and instore retailers such as Tescos, Argos, Amazon and John Lewis. Definitely widely available then! The item comes in a box with a picture of the maker on the front. The kenwood logo is clearly displayed on the product. Bulky packaging seems to be the norm for many electrical products which I really dislike - it does seem a bit unnecessary also in my opinion. With the product you get - two plastic 'travel' mugs with two grey flip lids a lid with blades on it the actual based of the product with wire and plug all attached. Strangely there were no instructions in the box I had. I dont know whether this a fluke and I did search high and low for instructions on the internet as I honestly couldnt work out how to use this when I got it would of the box. After experimenting for around half an hour or so (and some very strong words) I worked out that the blade is actually a lid for the plastic cup in which you make your smoothie - so all you do is put your fruit/vegetables/icecream/juice/alcohol (delete as appropriate!) in the plastic cup then screw on the lid with the blades facing downwards onto the plastic cup. Then you tip the cup upside down and screw onto the base of smoothie maker until the safety feature clicks. So simple...but I felt so stupid!! Anyway after I got this part out of the way using this smoothie maker is a breeze! The jugs have measurements (in mls) so if you are following a recipe it is easy to do so without using extra utensils. Also the blades literally cut through anything - I use it mostly for frozen fruit and have also had ice through it successfully! For such a small smoothie maker (fits perfectly on my kitchen worktop) it really does have a lot of pwoer behind it and makes fast work of smoothies, soups, shakes and ahem cocktails alike! It has two setting - slow and fast although to be fair both seem pretty fast to me! It also has a pulse which is good to use if you want to check everything has been pulverised without taking the lid off (as once youve done this it is a bit of a pain assembling it all back together if you need to give it another swirl). I use this every morning to make my usual fruit smoothie (amongst other things) and as I am always in a bit of a rush in the morning time is of the essence. Unlike some of the other smoothie makers I have used this one is so sturdy that I can chuck everything in, turn the switch on and walk away (although I obviously wouldnt recommend going too far)! The only isue for the morning is that I do live with other people (who sometimes rise after me) and it does make one incredibly loud noise - but nothing that shutting the door can't solve (I hope)! It is also very easy to clean. Apparently it is dishwasher safe but as I use it once, sometimes twice a day I tend to hand wash it so it's ready! Although the travel mugs are efficient and a good big size (700ml) I tend to prefer using my own plastic mug as it has a straw in it and is slightly smaller (I don't tend to drink more than a 400ml smoothie in the morning)! Also they are a bit of a dull grey looking colour which is very boring compared to my fluroscent yellow cup! If there wre more two than you wanting to use the mugs at the same time also I would imagine a bit of a tussle! Despite using this smoothie every day I see no signs of it slowing down, but if it did it comes with a one year guarantee. But really for the price and amount I use it for I really wouldnt be that bothered if it did break post-guarantee. I may have to go out and get another one straight away though! PROS widely available great price 1 year guarantee reliable strudy and strong CONS instructions? bulky packaging noisy bit dull looking! Recommended? Bet your bottom dollar its recommended!
This smoothie maker is so easy to use, so easy to clean, and effective. The fact that everything can be seperated makes cleaning this item very easy, as long as you rinse it shortly after use. The base is compact and easy to store. It comes with two cups which really helps with the day to day routine of using it. The cups are durable and hold up to being dropped, and banged into things. The lids are nto 100% leak proof, but they are good and in fact better than I expected them to be. The blades are good and can chop everything up fast and effectively including frozen fruit. I use my smoothie to go daily and have been using it for over a year and there are no signs of wear and tear. The only difficulty is the cups are a bit bulky and the lids aren't easy to drink out of...easily solved by using a straw.
My first experience with this type of appliance was with my bullet machine.I loved and cherished it. But due to its untimely death have had to buy alternatives over the years. This is one of those products that are being made by every company under the son, and to be fair I've bought quite afew of them! But do remind yourself that this is Kenwood, and they have been making gadgets for the kitchen for many years, many of which last a very long time so the quality and reliablitiy stands testament. The thing I love about this smoothie maker is when you open the box it soesnt come with a million and one silly parts that you will never use-it gives you what you need, such as two jugs, two drinking lids etc. Nthing thrown in just for the sake of it, which alot of brands have done. Its a practical maching that for me I used mainly for smoothies and milkshakes for the kids, but perfect if you want to make baby food or blitz up some home made soup when it cools down. The capacity is just right, half a litre, and its so easy to use you dont need to read instructions. Appliance is easy to clean, looks stylish and takes up very little room in the kitchen. Its one of those appliances you wont need to leave in the back of a cupboard-just keep it on the worktop and use! One of the things I am surprised about, is the amount of times I have dropped the jug itself. Not craked, broken or anything.Very tough.
I bought this smoothie maker as part of a recent health kick - must eat more fruit and veg - and it has definitely encouraged me to eat (or should that be drink?) fruit! Product Description - as per manufacturers brief Product Dimensions: 15.2 x 16 x 31.3 cm ; 1.8 Kg 300 W compact design Includes 2 x 0.5 L spill-proof travel goblets with lids Ice crush 2 speeds plus pulse What the Manufactures Say The SB055 Smoothie 2GO is perfect for on-the-go lifestyles, helping you get your five-a-day of fruit and vegetables, wherever you are. It's easy to make your own smoothie: place the ingredients into the travel mug, fit the chopping blades, fix onto the compact base and you're ready to make your smoothie. The low, high and plus pulse speed options allow you to mix your drink to the smoothie-ness you prefer. Then simply fit the drink-through re-sealable lid to the top, remove the travel mug from the base and you're ready to be "on the go" with your smoothie, whether it's in the gym, to work or to school. My Verdict It does what it says on the tin. I have never made a smoothie before so wasn't sure what to expect but this was extremely user friendly. The smoothie maker comes with two goblets and you simply pop all your ingredients into one of the goblets - part of the base of the smoothie maker is detachable - so you screw this onto the top of the goblet to secure the ingredients and then put back into the smoothie maker. Simply turn one rotation to secure to the smoothie maker and press the on button - the blades are very sharp and within a matter of minutes your fruit becomes a smoothie! Its much faster than I expected and easy to use. Once your smoothie its easy to safely detach and drink. You can drink directly out of the goblet or you can pour into a glass. The goblet comes with a screw top lid which you can secure to keep the smoothie fresh and pop into the fridge - I do this as usually each time I make enough for two smoothies. The smoothie maker is very strong and can be used to blend ice. This is versatile and you can also use this to make soup! The smoothie maker comes with a handy instruction guide and also a suggested recipe book. Looks wise the smoothie maker is slick and funky and looks very smart on my worktop! I got this for £24 from Amazon which in my opinion is very good value. I would strongly recommend.
I'm a big fan of custom milk shakes, and my missus and I are both a bit partial to a nice healthy smoothie, so when I saw this for sale at Argos recently I decided it would be a good purchase for us, as we did not own a blender or anything similar already, and we wanted something we could use for this purpose, so the Smoothie 2 Go seemed ideal. It was priced at £25 and I had a £10 Argos voucher so it only cost me £15 at the time! The operation is simple - chuck in your chopped fruit, ice cream, milk, juice, frozen fruit etc (just don't go above the marked fill lines for frozen/fresh ingredients and you'll be fine) then attach the blender lid, turn upside down, give it a shake and then twist it into the base. Turn the dial on the front to the low setting first, for a few seconds to get things moving, then up to the high setting for around 20 seconds (depending on the contents of the smoothie and how 'smooth' you want it). It couldn't be simpler! The first time we used it, we threw in some chopped strawberries, raspberries and some fruit juice - the result was a wonderfully thick smoothie for two, that would have cost a fair few pounds at a smoothie bar. The next day I tried something a bit different - a threw in a load of chopped up strawberries, poured in some double cream, then added a couple of scoops of ice cream - WOW, strawberries and cream milkshake!! It was soooo good :) The machine comes with two containers, that can also be used as cups/flasks, as they have a water-tight closable lid that can be flipped open to pour the smoothie out from. I tried drinking form it, but it's very uncomfortable so it's better to pour it into a cup first. At least having two of these means you could actually make two large shakes very quickly and rush them out of the house or whatever if you needed to, and then serve them from the containers. It also saves you from having to wash the container between making two different flavours of shake/smoothie etc, which might have been an issue for some people. And of course if one of them is still in the dishwasher/washing-up bowl, then you've still got a clean one ready to use if you suddenly desire another quick smoothie! I have tried various things with this machine now, and it does everything we want/need it to, and does it well. Fancy an Oreo milkshake? Strawberries and cream? Blueberry and Jaffa Cake surprise?! Get creative and you'll be amazed at the results, I can't wait to try some more experiments with our new machine, and it's a great (and easy) way to get a few portions of your 5-a-day, too.
Smoothie 2Go ------------------ This is a blender which is specifically designed for making smoothies quickly and efficiently. It is much smaller than a majority of blenders and as it comes with a detatchable goblet, the smoothie can literally be consumed on the go - hence the product name. The smoothie maker is designed and manufactured by Kenwood. It comes with two 0.5l goblets complete with lids, an instruction manual, registration card and plug. It is marketed as an easier way to get your five-a-day. This is much smaller than your average blender as it weighs in at just 1.5kg and stands at just over 30cm high, but the 'mini' design is actually quite appealing in my opinion. Price and Value for Money --------------------------------- This retails on average for a very reasonable reasonable £27.99 which I feel is fabulous value for such an efficient product. I got mine from John Lewis and paid £23.99 which I am really pleased with considering how expensive a lot of similar blenders are. Physical Appearence -------------------------- The smoothie maker is available in two colours - silver or black. I opted for black and I find this to be very sleek and expensive looking. The design is simple with a sturdy plastic base which has the off button and speed options and then the mug slots on and you're ready to blend! This looks fine in my kitchen and doesn't look out of place, nor does it take up much space on my kitchen worktop. Considering how cheap this is, it looks great. My Opinion -------------- When me and my boyfriend Marc moved into our first home together, we didn't bother taking a lot of things with us as we decided to purchase a majority of things from new. Although my boyfriend doesn't like smoothies, he agreed to buy this for me when we were browsing John Lewis as it's cheap enough and he knows how much I enjoy making (and consuming!) smoothies. Before we purchased this, I used a run of the mill blender with a 1.6 litre goblet, which did the job but I felt that this would be more practical as it's a lot more compact with a detachable mug, which obviosly means a little less cleaning! As I am the only person who drinks smoothies in my household, I find that this is more practical than a normal/larger blender as I can make just the right amount for myself rather than making too much and it going to waste. Cleaning up after using it is much quicker as only the detatchable mug and chopping blades need a quick rinse. The two goblets/mugs provided with the smoothie maker along with the chopping blades are dishwasher safe which is always an advantage! Considering how compact and lightweight this is compared to larger blenders, it's a very strong and effecient blender. I love making smoothies with frozen bananas and ice cubes, and I was a little concerned that this wouldn't cope, however it is suprising how fast and easily it blends up a frozen banana and it doesn't seem to struggle at all. The smoothie maker has two pulse speeds - low and high along with plus pulse. I find that this machine is really good at blending the fruit quickly and to just the right consistency even on the lowest speed. The consitency of the smoothies can be easily altered depending on the amount of liquid that you use and with minimum liquid the consistency is usually lovely and thick and creamy. With my old blender, it did blend but there would be lumps of fruit in the drink even when blended at the highest speed. With this though, the texture is nice and smooth although if you do like your smoothies to have a lumpier/chunky texture, obviously you can still achieve this by adjusting the amount of time that you blend itand which speed you blend at. I like that, unlike my old blender, you do not have to add any liquid into the drink and you can just stick some chopped up fruit in and blend. With my old blender I used to have to add milk or water which I felt spoiled the taste, whereas with this the smoothie tastes of pure fruit. I've also found this blender a little quicker to set up than my old one as the goblet interlocks onto the plastic base of the machine really easily and although it is necessary to fit the stainless steel chopping blades onto the goblet this doesn't take much effort at all. The goblet has a 0.5 litre capacity which is more than enough for me and I can easily get two large glasses of smoothie out of this. I have found that if I am blending bulkier fruit such as cubes of melon or mango, it's easier to blend these first as they take up a lot of space and once these are blended I add the rest of the fruit. The smoothie machine is quite loud but not any louder than an average blender. I love the two cups that come with the smoothie maker as they allow me to drink the smoothie straight away without pouring it into a glass - really handy and again this helps save on washing up. The mugs have a decent sized handle and come with a grey plastic lid which screws onto the top. The lid is simple in design with a flap which flips up to expose a hole when you want a drink and then flips down when you're done. It is really handy and it's great for people who are always on the go. The machine is 300 watts. Overall --------- A brilliant way to get your five a day! Affordable, great quality, robust and very efficient - highly reccomended!
Kenwood Smoothie 2Go. I love making smoothies; I try to have one at least every other day. Before I bought this Smoothie 2Go machine, I was using a regular blender to make them in. I found that a regular blender worked just fine but it was quite messy, as I had to carefully pour the smoothie into a glass and then clean the whole blender afterwards. I never thought of it as an issue until I came across this machine! I liked the compact design and how it literally makes smoothies to go and so I bought one straight away. I bought my Smoothie 2Go from amazon.co.uk. Its RRP is £27.99 but I managed to get it for a couple of pounds cheaper and paid £25.60. You can get the smoothie maker in two colours, black and silver. I decided to go with the silver design. In the box, there is the Smoothie 2Go machine, two 0.5l travel goblets with lids, a recipe book, an instruction manual, a registration card and plug. The Smoothie 2Go is designed to be quick and easy to use. It is ideal for people who want a fast way of getting their 5-a-day! To use the machine you place all of your ingredients into one of the travel mugs, fit the chopping blades and then place the mug onto the machine base. You can then blend away until you are happy with your smoothie! There are different pulse options so you can choose how quickly your smoothie blends. Once you are happy with your drink you fit the lid to the top of your mug and then remove it from the base. And that's it, you are ready 2Go! You can drink the smoothie through your re-sealable lid and take your mug with you wherever you are going! I love this machine; it makes the whole process of making smoothies a lot easier and with less mess. It is perfect for if I am going out somewhere and I fancy a smoothie first as I can take it with me. It is really easy to operate and is compact too so it does not take up too much cupboard space. The mugs are a really good size and allow you to make just the right amount of smoothie. I found that when I used a blender I sometimes wasted some as I made too much but with this, that is definitely not a problem. It has a sleek design too, which makes it nice to look at. The mugs are easy to wash and they are so useful! My favourite smoothie recipe is a couple of fresh strawberries, chopped banana, frozen raspberries, fresh orange juice and some strawberry yoghurt. Delicious and perfect in summer! The recipe book included with the machine has some great ideas for yummy smoothies too! If you are a smoothie fan then I would definitely recommend buying this Smoothie 2Go machine! It is great value for money and as smoothies are so easy to make with it, you will probably find yourself making more and more. 　 Thank you for reading : )
I usually enjoy a smoothie every morning and because buying them is so costly, my sister bought my this great smoothie machine for Christmas 2009. The machine is very straightforward to use. You simply put your ingredients - for smoothies I usually have something like a banana, frozen berries and orange juice - into the plastic container, screw on the plastic cap with the blades and slot this into the black base which is powered by electricity. You then use the dial at the front to activate the blades and make your smoothie. There are two settings, a medium speed and a faster one to really blitz it. The result is a great smoothie and you can also use it to make soups too! It is quite noisy though - not always great in the early mornings for those you live with - but in total it takes about 7 seconds to turn your ingredients into a smoothie so it's not too bad. The machine also comes with another plastic flask and secure lid, meaning that you can always whip up your smoothie and take it to work with you for later in the day! I have had the machine for over two years now and have never had any problems with it. All in all a great machine and in my opinon, very good value too!
