Advantages: effective when the filter is changed

Disadvantages: noisy, expensive accessories, limited choice of freshener oils

I bought a Mountain Breeze ioniser/air freshener from Boots about a year ago. It cost about £25 and is about the size of a bag of sugar. I plugged it in and put a few drops of the freshener liquid on the filter and wow.....fresh air in my kitchen. Every morning for about three weeks I would walk into my kitchen and all the smells from the night before's cooking had vanished into thin air and replaced by a cool scent. I must say however that the unit is a bit noisy and when I have people round they ask me what the noise is, so it is quite noticeable. After about a month I noticed that it wasn't quite eliminating all the smells as it used to so I replaced the filter. I read the instruction book and it said that filters and an assorted array of freshener oils could be purchased by phone. When I phoned and asked what other scents there were I was told that the only one available was the one that came with the unit, Woodland Glade. Just out of interest I have purchased the oils on one other occasion and Woodland Glade is still the only scent you can get. You can't use essential oils because it can melt the plastic casing. Two filters and the oil cost about £10 with P&P. So basically every time the air cleaning properties of the unit start to fail you have to fork out a tenner to get it working to capacity again. I think that the prices of filters and oils etc should be displayed on the outside of the box so that you are aware of how much the accessories are going to cost you before you buy the thing. I think I would have thought twice had I known that in advance.....
