Advantages: lights first time, powerful wok burner, easy to clean

Disadvantages: the wok doesn't fit!

Well, having reviewed our new oven and whilst waiting for the new product dept at DY to set up a link so I can praise the company we bought it from I thought I'd do the hob as well. Not a staggeringly exciting thing to write about but it?s a good product.

It's a Neff (to match the oven) T2164 and cost £131.49 Not quite the bottom end of the Neff range, it?s just one up. The Neff name is synonymous with quality; our last hob was still working well apart from a little difficulty in lighting it largely due to a build up of muck, after 16 years, inevitable isn?t it. You can?t clean it every time you use, some days you just have to leave it alone?

The new version is black enamel and looks too clean to use in comparison to our old one. It fitted right into the hole left by the old one, which was nice! (Another good reason for buying the same make again)

The knobs are arranged along the right hand side, easily accessible and out of reach if you have small children, a useful feature as this hob does NOT feature a flame failure device. This means that should the flame be blown out, gas will continue to fill the room. I have tried to blow it out but could only manage to extinguish the smallest burner whilst it was set to its lowest setting so it doesn't appear to be a problem. The nicest thing is that it lights first time and stays lit, no more endless clicking with no flame action!

The pan supports are also enamelled and are in two sections which means it's easier to clean (fits in the sink or dishwasher...if you're lucky enough to have one!) whereas the old was the full size of the hob top and rather large meaning it rarely got cleaned!

There are four burners, one small simmering burner, two medium burners and a huge triple wok burner, which features an interesting whistle. I'm not conv
inced it's supposed to do this but it doesn't seem to cause a problem, when turned down to the low setting it emits a strange whine and with practice you can vary the pitch and play tunes, sad I know!

The oversized support for the wok has proved to be the only problem so far, It's too slippery and a normal wok with one handle, slides around too much to use, the weight of the handle tipping it sideways. We'll have to try a different wok, maybe with two handles. Having said that though the support lifts off to allow you to use a large pan instead and at a whopping 3.6Kw, it heats up even a full pan of water in no time at all.

Overall we're very happy with it and looking forward to many years service from this product, and after 6 months use it's still very clean, the novelty will wear off!
