Advantages: Great looks, functional, fits in well.
Disadvantages: Clock doesn't seem accurate, rusting might occur,
I purchased a black 'Premier Houseware' scale set several months ago with the intention of having it sit on the kitchen side, camouflaged in with other utensils and general appliance. I liked the idea of having a traditional looking analog weighing display, and thought £9.99 was a decent price for such a thing set, though now looking back I feel I should have gone for something a litter more expensive.
The retro style of the product was really what attracted me to it - and I love the look of the thing. It's stylish without making too much of a statement in front of the cabinets. It's simplistic, but still adopts all the lines and curves associated with 'trendiness'. It's functional whilst retaining all the above qualities.
I like how the analog clock face - which measures items up to 3Kg in weight - sticks out at the sides and seems to engulf the scales structure. I dislike how high the aluminium bowl sticks above the device slightly too high.
Weighing up to 3Kg, these scales cover all the ground required within a standard kitchen environment. The accuracy however seems questionable. The clock sits at 0 when the bowl is empty and clean, but it doesn't seem to rise in weight as quickly as my other scales when ingredients are added. This might just be my model messing up, but I don't entirely trust the device to measure entirely correctly.
This being said, the display is as clear as can be due to the sheer size of the clock, and clarity of the font. The metallic rim of the clock matches that of the bowl, creating a further level of style suited to all kitchens.
The scales are easy to clean and maintain - the bowl is detachable and the metal body of the scales can be wiped down easily. The materials feel of good quality, like they would last. However, it isn't as water-proof as you would expect or wish to expect. Over time I sense the possibility of water penetration, causing interior rust - not what you want.
Bits around the top of the scales are more difficult to clean, due to the metal framing holding up the bowl, and this can be quite annoying when you start getting a build up of stale margarine and sugar particles.
Overall this little set isn't all that bad, and for £9.99 it's not something to sneer too heavily at. However, it does have its problems, and if you want the retro style with a little more durability, functionality and longevity, I'd shop around some more.
Summary: Try something a bit higher in price, maybe!
