I love baking and do the baking once a week as my grandchildren love to eat cup cakes and home made scones when they come to visit. I used to bake a lot when I was a child with my aunties who used to use the measurements of flour , sugar and fruit by the cup full and for years after I also used this way of measuring, until I was bought a set of kitchen scales for christmas one year and since then I have always had a set which I use to do my baking with. Unfortunately scales don't last long in my house as the children play with them when they are helpjng me to bake, they can't seem to resist pushing the bowls on top of the scales down to watch the dial ... I bought a pair of these scales from Amazon around 6 months ago as a back up set. I had a few reasons for doing this as I also have a set of digital scales. I paid £7.99 for these scales and bought them in a lovely bright shade of red (where the above picture is black mine is red and also the container on the top is solid red instead of see through). I like having the choice of digital or manual because actually for baking sometimes the manual are just easier to use and instead of having to rebalance via a button continually to add things into the bowl you can just tally the weights and carry on regardless. When we moved into our house we were lucky enough to receive gifts from friends and family, one of those gifts was kitchen scales, they were not very fancy but a very useful item all the same. Just before I had my baby I managed to drop them and break them. Now I'm a reasonable cook but I do need to weigh everything, I cant judge ingredients and after a very disastrous loaf of bread which my husband said would make a very good Yorkshire pudding I bought some new scales.
