Since moving into my new flat last summer I have discovered a love of baking - particularly since discovering that homemade cakes and breads freeze well and so can make a quick and easy addition to a mid-week meal. When I initially moved in, as you can imagine, I was watching the pennies and investing in a set of kitchen scales was low on my list of priorities. I spent several months just measuring things out using cups, which often worked well but I always did wonder if my baking would taste better if the ingredients were measured out more accurately. Around Christmas time I was given a gift voucher for Debenhams by a friend who came to visit my new flat and ... Read the complete review

It all started with porridge. I was in a new job where I tended to eat breakfast at my desk. They were oaty people, the nurses with whom I worked, and they got me thinking that I might like to breakfast on hot cereal too. I bought a box of those individual sachets to try, but once I knew I liked them I couldn't stand the thought of wasting so much money just for someone else to measure out my portions. Until then, I had been using the standard Tesco Value scales with a removable pan, but these were very temperamental and if you weighed the same thing 3 times, you'd get 3 different results. Since I had absolutely no eye for measuring out my oats, I really needed to use ... Read the complete review

In the past two years my home life has changed radically. I have gone from being a wage slave working upwards of 50 hours per week to working part-time two days per week allowing me to get more in to household related things such as cooking and baking. I absolutely love my life now, more than I ever have, and I feel that my family benefit from me being home more as I am able to look after them and myself more. It is fair to say that my favourite things to make are home-made soups and baked goods. With soups it is easy to just throw in most ingredients and use a measuring jug to measure out liquids, however with baked goods using the wrong quantity can have ... Read the complete review

Before I go on to review these particular scales I will tell you how I came to have them, which demonstrates Salter's excellent customer service and how you can have complete confidence in buying one of their products. Eight years ago we were given some Salter electric kitchen as a wedding present. About a year ago they started to behave strangely; I tried changing the batteries, but this didn't help. The scales became unusable as the weight displayed kept fluctuating, and when you added something to be weighed the amount would keep decreasing the longer you looked at it! I remembered from when I had opened the scales that Salter said they had a ten ... Read the complete review

I'd always had Tesco own scales, I was never really happy with them and they made baking cakes harder, but I thought buying anything better would be so expensive. A couple of months ago I went round a friends house and she had these scales. We used them and I thought they were amazing. She said they were a wedding present, so I didn't dare ask how much they were. I was so impressed with them though, I came home and looked them up on the internet. I could not believe my luck when I could get these for £12 on amazon, I ordered them right away. The scales are very slim and flat. They have a small digital display on the front with only a couple of buttons. I ... Read the complete review
