When my auntie suggested buying me a slow cooker for Christmas I wasn't overly impressed. Normally I get either jewellery or perfume from her so the thought of a slow cooker was slightly disappointing... especially when I'd been hinting about some perfume for a couple of weeks. My mum tried to convince me it would be a brilliant thing to have in my kitchen so in the end we struck a deal... she'd get me a cheaper slow cooker than the one she'd been looking at originally and I could still have a small bottle of my perfume... deal done! Before I got the slow cooker I spent a lot of time wondering what one actually was, obviously I had some idea that it would cook ... Read the complete review

I like nothing better than to be able to bung a few things in a casserole dish, forget it for a few hours and then come back to find a well cooked casserole or stew. In a conventional oven, it is, of course, possible to cook a perfectly good casserole. However, I have always found that, when cooking beef in particular, it is hard to cook the meat at a low enough temperature to make it tender without burning. A slow cooker, although probably not a vital piece of kitchen equipment, is therefore a very welcome addition to my kitchen. Why I chose this model To be honest, price is the main reason. It is available online from Tesco for just £19.96 at the ... Read the complete review

The past few years have seen a resurgence in interest in a kitchen gadget known as the slowcooker, originally popular in the '70s. Not having much counter space, I resisted buying one for ages. Also, being veggie, I wasn't sure how much use I would get from one given that they seem most popular for cooking cheaper cuts of meat to make them tender. Tesco usually sell this own-brand 3.5L slowcooker for about £20 (as of this writing they are £15 in my local Tesco), but about a year ago they had them on sale at only £10. I walked past them on two shopping trips before succumbing to temptation. For £10 I had to try it! Slowcookers generally come in two main sizes - ... Read the complete review

I recently purchased the Tesco slow cooker using my clubcard vouchers. I had £12 worth of vouchers I didn't know what to do with, so when I stumbled across the slow cooker while browsing Tesco website and saw it reduced from £15 to £12, I couldn't refuse! I have had a slow cooker before - a Crock-Pot branded one - which I loved but unfortunately broke the ceramic pot, which left me slow cooker-less for a year or so as I never got round to replacing it (until now). I did miss not having one, as I really think that casseroles, curries, chilli etc. just don't taste the same when cooked the conventional way. Slow cookers are also fantastic for cooking joints ...
