In the winter months a slow cooker is an ideal thing to have, as so much ofthe food you can make with them could be described as warm comfort food.

The Tesco slow cooker is very simple to use and could also be described as 'easy on the eye' It has a functional stainless steel design, which is very easy to wipe clean and the parts that come out (the dish and the lid!) are very well made an easy to wipe clean.

Although it obviously gets hot it doesn't feel to me that it could be a health and safety nightmare, but it is worth remembering that parts do get hot and caution should be taken, especially if you have young children.

I use the slow cooker for a range of foods and I find that many vegetables cook well in it. Root vegetables like potatoes cook particularly well.

I am a vegetarian so I often make lots of stews in my slow cooker. I find that pulses also cook well and some of the stir in sauces available from supermarkets are all very good when added to the pot. It is a good idea however, to remember to add more water so as to stop it simmering away!

I would recommend the slow cooker for stews, casseroles and soups...but also why not try making a curry. I have made a very good lentil dhal in mine which has proven popular!

I like the idea of chopping up good vegetables and adding them to the pot, only to come home from work and find a hearty meal prepared ready for me....and because you put it all in the pot, you know exactly what you are eating.
