... definitely live in a drawer! Made with white plastic, it's just simply a sandwich maker. I had one years ago when I was single, which was randomly shaped like a cow which was quite cool, but no, this one is white, and plastic! It has handles at the front of the machine which clip together to provide a nice safety function (not that I would allow my children to use this item, as much as they wanted to help, the temperatures are just too high). It's good to go straight away, I just gave the inside a quick wipe with a wet clo...more

My children are always really hungry when they arrive home from school and as they often have sports clubs to attend, I like to give them something nutritious and tasty to eat. They are both fond of toasted sandwiches and with this in mind I decided to buy a sandwich maker. I didn't want or need anything too fancy or expensive; just a basis model that worked! Browsing the electrical section in my local Tesco I came across a very basic sandwich toaster priced at just £4.64. The toaster is part of the Tesco value range and as I have had good experiences of several of the value range electrical products I decided to give this one a go. The Tesco value sandwich ...  Read the complete review

I bought this sandwich maker for less than £6. I wasn't a purchase I'd intended to make, just something I'd seen whilst doing a weekly shop. I thought since it was such a low price I'd give it a try. I'd had toasted sandwiches previously and really enjoyed them and they're relatively cheap to make and a good quick snack idea. When I took it out the box I was quite impressed with the way it looked. I thought it seemed more expensive than it was. When I plugged it in a red light on the product began to flash. It does this until it has reached temperature, this takes a few minutes. The green light then lights up to indicate that it's ready to use. 2 sandwiches ...  Read the complete review

Tesco Value SMWP10 Sandwich Maker: Another 'cheesy' product - You get what you pay for! (402 words)

My brother bought one of these toasted sandwich makers at the beginning of the year as our last one broke and we were both craving some homemade cheese and ham toasties! My initial reaction was very positive as it appeared that we had landed ourselves a bargain. The first few sandwiches were exactly to standards and the maker has a handy light on the top which is linked to the thermostat - When the red light goes off the maker is hot enough to use. The Sandwich maker is very similar to other sandwich makers. Metal plates inside mould the toastie into a triangle shape as it toasts. The maker also has a handy clip on the front which allows you to hold ...  Read the complete review

Toast it! (1263 words)

In my experience, toasted sandwich of 'toastie' makers don't have very much of a useful lifespan, so if you're buying one you might as well go for a budget version such as the Tesco Value model. A particular idiosyncrasy of these gadgets is that when you put bread into them, you butter the outside of the slices, and even now I can well remember the aroma of stale Stork SB margarine rising from the traditional 'Breville' model my mother had in the 1970s whenever it was plugged in; toastie makers being notoriously difficult to properly keep clean. For anyone unfamiliar with the toasted sandwich concept, what these kitchen gadgets are, in effect, is a device ...  Read the complete review

Tesco Value SMWP10 Sandwich Maker: Cheesy but still hot (904 words)

My children are quite fussy and know what they like, it's often not that they don't like things it's just they haven't tried them, so recently I have been bombarding them with children's cookery programmes and foody magazines in an attempt to coax them in to trying new things. One of the things that they wouldn't ever try was toasty's. I couldn't get my head around why they wouldn't try it when they love cheese and they love toast, but in the end I managed to convince them to try one. Great, now just the problem of not having a toasty maker! In a mad rush to Tesco before they changed their minds, I wanted something that would provide a decent toasty but be fairly cheap ..  Read the complete review
