      Very good product

Excellent product. I used to mess around with a thermometer in the grill compartment of my cooker with the grill on very low to maintain 45C. I had to cover the yogurt pot with silver foil to protect it from the direct heat, monitor the temperarture until steady and then leave overnight. I couldn't get the oven to adjust to the right temperature. Now it takes minutes with a litre of UHT milk, some starter from the previous batch and boiling water for the outer compartment. It turns out perfect every time, better than before. All the care taken to keep the temperature steady was obviously a waste of time! I do add 50g powdered milk per litre for a thicker yogurt. It is necessary to thoroughly mix the powder in some milk and zap it in the microwave on low for about 5 minutes until it is about 80C(steaming). On high it can froth up. You might have thought that powdered milk would be sterile but it certainly is not and will make fizzy yogurt if untreated. The UHT milk is no problem but if you use fresh milk you will need to zap that too. I have never bothered with the sachets of powdered starter. Better and cheaper to use the starter from the previous batch. However, as soon as you have made a batch, tip it out into another container and make the next batch so two are always on the go. That way the starter is always from a fresh unused pot and unlikely to be contaminated. One point is that the yogurt is sharper than most shop-bought types, with more acidity. I personally prefer this. The very mild creamy flavour of shop bought types seems unnatural and overly morish. All in all I am completely satisfied with the Truly yogurt maker.
